OneNote is a free application that can be used on all Windows platforms. It allows users to take notes, save web pages, and store information in digital notebooks. Microsoft Office 2010 comes with OneNote, allowing users to access it from any of their Office applications. OneNote is also available as a mobile app for Android and iOS devices (iPhone and iPad.
Vimeo is a video service that allows users to upload, share, and view videos. Vimeo is similar to YouTube, but it is intended for high-quality videos. Vimeo has a unique feature called "groups" which allow users to add cplaborators.
When using OneNote, users can quickly and easily search the content of their digital notebooks. For example, if a user wants to find all of their notes related to "Microsoft," they can type "Microsoft" into the search bar and OneNote will scan all of the notes and show them in a separate group. If a user wants to search only within certain sections of their notebook, they can select the section title and click on the "Search" icon at the upper-right hand corner of the screen. This will only search the sections where the user has placed content. The notebook page will still be highlighted in yellow, indicating that there are results in that section that match what was searched. OneNote then lists any content that matches what was searched.
If a user has several notebooks with different names, OneNote allows a user to search multiple notebooks at once by selecting multiple notebooks in the left-hand navigation pane. After selecting multiple notebooks, a user can type in a search term, choose what type of results they want, and click on the "Search" button. Results from each notebook will be listed in the center of the screen in a single list. A user can then add any content from each notebook to a "Favorites" section by clicking on the "Add to Favorites" icon at the top of the list. This way, if a user wants to find something from these notebooks later, he or she can open the "Favorites" tab and search for it there without having to sift through each notebook individually.
In this article, I will demonstrate how OneNote and Vimeo can be integrated together so that users can take notes from videos on Vimeo. For example, if a user wants to take notes from a TED Talk video, he or she can watch the video in Vimeo and create a note in OneNote while watching it. This would allow the user to keep his or her open tabs organized and make it easy to reference things while taking notes. Since OneNote is always connected through one's Office account online, the notes will be accessible no matter which computer or device it is accessed on.
