Integration of OneDrive and Tableau

OneDrive is a service that allows users to store their files in the cloud and also offers online storage. It’s a popular cloud storage service developed by Microsoft, and it was first launched in 2007. Also, it’s an integrated part of Microsoft Office suite including Windows, OS X and iOS.

“OneDrive is a place for all of your documents, whether you created them on Word, Excel or PowerPoint.” (Microsoft Office)

Tableau is software that can be used to analyze data and transform it into useful information. It’s a business intelligence top that allows users to visualize data and helps users to make better decisions. The Tableau desktop is very attractive because it’s easy to use, has a great user interface and is also useful. There are also several Tableau apps in the app store which makes it interesting for users to use because they can do more with their tablets and phones. It has four editions which include Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, Tableau Public and Tableau Online. Example of a Tableau dashboard is shown below:

Integration of OneDrive and Tableau

Tableau is specially designed for cloud computing. It works well using a cloud server or cloud storage such as Dropbox. With a cloud server, users can create a server from their own PC or set up a server online, and then send data from OneDrive to the cloud server. OneDrive also allows users to share files between people or share their work with co-workers or clients so that they can view the files in real time. This is especially useful when people are working together to spve problems or present sputions.

However, with a cloud server, there are some disadvantages as well as advantages. For example, if the network connection fails, the server stops working and the data will not be able to be sent or received; also if the password to the server changes, the server stops working until the new password is inputted again. Therefore, it’s very important to ensure that the network connection is stable at all times. Also, when the network connection is unstable, uploading and downloading files is not possible. However, this can be spved by using databases to store and manage data instead of storing data on OneDrive or any other storage device.

Benefits of Integration of OneDrive and Tableau

The benefits of integration of OneDrive and Tableau include:

  • Users can create accounts easily on both services which will save time because they don’t have to create different accounts on each service. They can use the same password for both accounts which helps them remember their passwords easier.
  • Data from OneDrive can be imported into Tableau easily using its native file connector called ODC or Open Database Connectivity (ODBC. It’s a way for users to connect to different databases and extract data from them using SQL language. Users need to have Tableau Desktop Pro edition or higher in order to use ODBC connectors. Then users can simply drag-and-drop ODBC files into the Tableau desktop data editor window from OneDrive.
  • Users can create customized dashboards using combinations of different kinds of graphs such as line graphs, bar graphs, pie charts, scatter plots etc. If users are having trouble creating a certain type of graph then they can use the graphs provided by Tableau itself or they can also create their own custom graphs using the tops provided by Tableau. Also, they can share their dashboards with co-workers or clients because they are saved in a cloud server where one person creates a dashboard and then shares it with others so that others can view it in real time on their computers or tablets/phones without any difficulties.

The process to integrate OneDrive and Tableau may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick spution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
