Integration of OneDrive and Square

OneDrive?

Microsoft OneDrive is a cloud storage, file hosting service operated by Microsoft. It allows users to store any type of files including documents, images, and videos on the cloud. Users can organize files in fpders. The service also allows users to invite friends and share files with them. The service operates across Windows, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Xbox One, OS X, and the web.

In 2011, former Windows Live Mesh team created the service as SkyDrive. Later it changed its name to OneDrive, after acquiring Skype.[2] It comes with free storage capacity limited to 5GB as of April 2016.[3] In July 2014, Microsoft expanded it to unlimited storage capacity for Office 365 subscribers. Users can also purchase more storage from Microsoft. The user interface of OneDrive is similar to that of Dropbox.

OneDrive is available on Windows 10,[4] Windows 8.1,[5] Windows RT 8.1,[6] Windows Phone 8,[7] Windows Phone 8.1,[8] iOS[9] and Android.[10][11] OneDrive also has a desktop application for OS X[12] and Windows (previously known as SkyDrive.[13]

Square?

Square is a credit card payment processor that allows merchants to accept payments via their mobile device or computer. It has a point of sale app which provides a small portable credit card reader for the merchants to swipe customer’s credit cards. Merchants can sign up for Square online or through an iPhone, iPad or Android app. Square charges 2.75% per swipe or swiped transaction plus processing fees of 15¢ per transaction.[14]

Integration of OneDrive and Square

In January 2015, Microsoft announced that it would integrate its cloud storage service OneDrive with Square’s point-of-sale system. This integration means that Square users will automatically get 100GB of free space on OneDrive for every $250 processed through Square.[15] Previously if they wanted to get this storage, they would have to sign up for a premium plan which costs $199/year.[16]

Benefits of Integration of OneDrive and Square

The integration offers several advantages to both companies. Many small businesses use Square and offer mobile products; hence integration with OneDrive helps them to expand their services and make their products more standardized. Additionally, businesses can provide integrated benefits with customers who purchase goods using Square because they can now share their photos and documents with them. Moreover, the integration also allows businesses to directly upload their sales data into QuickBooks Online or other accounting software through OneDrive.[17]

It seems that the integration of OneDrive with Square is beneficial for both companies. However, it is yet to be seen how many businesses are going to use this service because there are many other options available in the market such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, SugarSync and Amazon Cloud Drive etc. For example, Dropbox has over 400 million users according to its official website.[18] In addition, the integration of OneDrive with Square does not seem to have any advantage over Dropbox and Google Drive since these two services already have an integration with QuickBooks Online and other accounting software.[19] Hence implementation of this new service may take some time.

The process to integrate OneDrive and Square may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick spution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
