Integration of OneDrive and Google Photos

OneDrive and Google Photos are cloud based storage services. They provide online storage to users, which means they are accessible from anywhere. OneDrive is a cloud storage product, while Google Photos is a cloud photo management service.

OneDrive is the cloud storage by Microsoft Corporation. It was launched on August 2007, by Microsoft corporation. The service is available for Windows and Mac OS X users. Users can upload files to OneDrive, in any format, including Office documents, photos, videos, music and other files. Additionally, Microsoft also provides a OneDrive application for Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices.

In October 2014, Microsoft acquired Nokia’s Devices and Services division. As part of the acquisition deal, Microsoft also got its mobile devices business in the deal. With this acquisition, Microsoft had access to Nokia’s OZO VR cameras and virtual reality technpogies. This resulted in a new feature that was introduced with the updated OneDrive app on iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8.1 devices; users can now capture their moments in 3D in full 360-degrees using Ozo VR cameras. This feature is currently available only in select cities in the United States, as a result of testing the technpogy and app before releasing it to the public.

Google Photos is a cloud-based photo management service by Google Inc. It was first introduced at the Google I/O conference in May 2015. With this cloud-based photo management service, users can store their photos online and access them from anywhere. Google Photos automatically organizes user’s photos and creates albums based on events, objects and faces. The service also allows users to create animations from their photos and videos.

Users need a Google account to use Google Photos. In addition, they need to install Google Drive app to be able to upload photos, videos and other files to their Google account via a computer or a smartphone. However, some features are not accessible unless users link their phone number to their Google account through a two-way verification process.

OneDrive is integrated with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint documents. Therefore, users can edit their documents directly from OneDrive by selecting the option “Edit in OneDrive” when opening a document in Office applications. Additionally, other applications can also be synchronized with OneDrive such as Adobe Lightroom CC and Apple iPhoto. Google Photos does not have any such integration with other applications; however, it integrates with some third party apps such as Adobe Photoshop Express and Apple Photos app.
