OneDrive is a cloud storage service operated by Microsoft that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software. OneDrive comes with the Office 365 subscription. It is integrated with Windows, and it is available for Windows Phone, iOS, Android, Xbox One, and Internet Explorer. In October 2014, Microsoft expanded OneDrive capacities from 7 GB to 15 GB and made it available in the suite’s business, education, and government plans. Microsoft allows users to add files from their computer directly to OneDrive, and to edit documents stored on OneDrive using Office Online apps. It can be downloaded and used for free with 5 GB of storage. The service also provides a reduced-size version of the user’s uploaded files to use as an avatar or profile picture on many services such as Skype. In 2016, Microsoft announced expansion of the free storage capacity from 15 GB to a maximum of 1 TB for users who are signed into their OneDrive accounts on two or more devices.
Dropbox is a cloud storage service operated by American company Dropbox, Inc., headquartered in San Francisco, California, that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud and client software. Dropbox allows users to create a special fpder on each of their computers or mobile devices (such as a laptop or tablet), which Dropbox then synchronizes so that it appears to be the same fpder (with the same contents. regardless of the device being used to view it. Dropbox users have up to 2 GB of free storage space. Dropbox also offers a referral program that rewards users with additional storage space for referring friends to the service. With this program, users can receive up to 16 GB depending on the number of people they have referred. Users can link their Dropbox account with other services such as Google Drive or Facebook to share files through those services. When users install the application on their system or mobile device, a directory called Dropbox is added to their computer’s “Documents” or “My Documents” fpder, or their mobile device’s internal storage directory. This is where users are expected to put all files they want to back up or synchronize with their Dropbox account. The Dropbox application monitors this fpder for changes and then uploads the changed files to their server along with any other files that have changed within the Dropbox fpder since the last time it was synchronized.
