Integration of Omnisend and Qlik Sense

Omnisend

Omnisend is a marketing automation platform for eCommerce. It helps the users to manage the customer lifecycle and automate their marketing processes. Omnisend offers a wide range of features such as E-mail Marketing, Push Notification, SMS and Voice Campaigns, Lead Generation Forms, Social Media Marketing and many more.

Qlik Sense

Qlik Sense is an open source business intelligence platform that allows users to visualize data in various ways. The users can create charts and reports as per their needs. These charts and reports can be used for any purpose such as Business Analysis, Marketing Analysis etc. Qlik Sense also has a feature called QlikView Editor which can be used to create custom reports.

Integration of Omnisend and Qlik Sense

Omnisend can be integrated with Qlik Sense via two methods – via API or via Apps Manager. The integration through API requires some technical knowledge whereas the integration through Apps Manager does not require any technical knowledge. The integration through API will be explained in this module.

The first step towards integration is to create an account on Omnisend website. Further, the user has to connect to Qlik Sense via API. The steps are explained below:

Step 1. Login to Qlik Sense Web System

Step 2. Navigate to Settings -> Security -> API Access Wizard -> User-Defined Apps -> New User-defined App

Step 3. Name the app “Omnisend” and click “Create User-Defined App”

Step 4. Choose the “Daily batch” option under “Batch Frequency” dropdown. Now, the user will have the choice to define the time at which the batch should run. This can be done by clicking on “Edit” button beside “Batch Frequency” option. The user can then define the batch frequency according to the requirement. The user can choose between “Every day”, “Weekly”, “Monthly” or “Once only” option under “Run Batch Frequency” dropdown. Finally, click “Save Changes”. The next screen will provide the fplowing options:

– URL of the app

– API Key of the app

– ID of the app (which can be found under “App Settings” section)

Step 5. Copy the above information and login to Omnisend website. Navigate to Settings -> Manage Integrations -> Import API Key -> Paste API Key -> Next -> Choose Type of App (Qlik Sense. -> Next -> Choose Integration Type (Custom Data. -> Next -> Custom Data Details (URL. -> Paste URL of App (which was copied in Step 4. -> Next -> Save Changes.

The user now has successfully integrated Qlik Sense with Omnisend via API. Now, let’s see how this integration can be used to send emails to customers based on certain events that take place in Qlik Sense. Suppose, Joe purchases a certain product from your E-commerce website. After Joe has made the payment, you want to inform him about his purchase by sending him an email. This can be done by creating a trigger in Omnisend based on the event created in Qlik Sense. Let us see how to do this:

First, create a trigger in Omnisend using the fplowing steps:

Step 1. Login to Omnisend Website. Navigate to Settings -> Manage Triggers -> New Trigger. Give a Name to the trigger (e.g. Email Purchase. and select your Mailing List(s. Now click on “Next” button. A new screen will appear where you have to specify the conditions for which you want to send the trigger if they are true or false. You have three options available – BOOLEAN, EMAIL_SENT_TIME_RANGE and EMAIL_SENT_TIME_RANGE_UNDER_MINUTES. BOOLEAN condition is used if you just want to send the trigger if one event takes place or another event takes place or there is no event at all. EMAIL_SENT_TIME_RANGE condition is used if you want to send an email after a certain time period has passed since an event occurred. Finally, EMAIL_SENT_TIME_RANGE_UNDER_MINUTES condition is used if you want to send an email within minutes after an event occurs (required time period is specified. If you choose BOOLEAN condition, enter the name of the event that took place (in our case it is “Fired Purchase”. and check whether you want to send an email if this event takes place or not. If you choose EMAIL_SENT_TIME_RANGE condition, enter the minimum time that has passed since this event occurred (in our case it is 1 day. and choose whether you want an email if this event occurs within this time period or not (choose Yes. If you choose EMAIL_SENT_TIME_RANGE_UNDER_MINUTES condition, enter the time period that has passed since this event occurred (in our case it is 24 hours. and choose whether you want an email if this event occurs within this time period or not (choose Yes. Click on “Save Changes” button when done entering these values. Finally, click on “Save Triggers” button to save this trigger permanently. You can now test this trigger by firing a purchase event from Qlik Sense source and then wait for a few hours or days depending upon your trigger conditions. You should receive an email at that time informing you about Joe’s purchase from your store!

Now that we have seen how we can use triggers to send emails after certain events occur in Qlik Sense. Let us now see how we can use triggers in Qlik Sense to send notifications whenever a new contact is created in Omnisend or a new lead is created in Omnisend or a new opportunity is created in Omnisend etc.:

Step 1. Login to Omnisend Website and navigate to Settings -> Manage Triggers -> Edit a Trigger -> Copy a Link Step 2. Open Qlik Sense Web System and navigate to Settings -> Manage Integrations -> Import API Key -> Paste API Key -> Next -> Choose Type of App (Omnisend. -> Next -> Integration Type (Data Object Events. -> Choose Integration Type (Contact)-> Next-> Copy Contact Object ID-> Choose Action Type (Send Mail)-> Enter Recipient Email Address-> Next-> Choose Action Type (Send Text Message)-> Enter Recipient Phone Number-> Next-> Copy Action Link-> Next-> Save Changes Step 3. In your Qlik Sense Dashboard and navigate to Settings -> Manage Integrations -> Import API Key -> Paste API Key -> Next -> Choose Type of App (Omnisend. -> Next -> Integration Type (Data Object Events. -> Choose Integration Type (Contact)-> Next-> Integration Action Type (Connect)-> Copy Connect Object ID-> Choose Action Type (Send Mail)-> Enter Recipient Email Address-> Next-> Choose Action Type (Send Text Message)-> Enter Recipient Phone Number-> Next-> Copy Action Link-> Next-> Save Changes Now whenever a new contact is created or updated or deleted in Omnisend, you will receive a notification and an appropriate action will be performed by Qlik Sense depending upon your settings in Step 2 and 3 above except that instead of sending an email, you will be sent an SMS message or vice versa depending upon your settings specified in Step 2 and 3 above! Similarly, we can also use triggers to send notifications whenever a new lead is created or updated or deleted in Omnisend! We can also use triggers to send notifications whenever an opportunity stage changes from Draft Stage to Closed Sales Stage for example!
