Office 365 is an online subscription-based productivity suite developed and marketed by Microsoft as part of its cloud computing platform. There are three main components to Office 365. Office Online, Office Mobile apps, and Office desktop software. Each of these components provides a portion of the functionality of Microsoft Office.
Strava is a GPS tracking app with social networking features. Strava’s mobile application is compatible with iOS and Android operating systems. Users can track real-time detailed information about their activities including distance, speed, elevation gain, calories burned, and route. They can also upload photos and view them on a map. Strava allows users to share their activities, fplow friends, view leaderboards, and join clubs. Strava can be used on any activity that uses GPS to record the activity.
Strava is the perfect top for athletes to keep track of their training progress. One of the biggest challenges facing athletes is to have a way to keep track of their training progress. Strava makes this easy by allowing users to easily track their mileage, speed, time, etc., all through its GPS enabled mobile application. This data can then be seamlessly uploaded to Microsoft’s OneDrive. Once on OneDrive, the data can easily be accessed through the various Office 365 applications. This allows athletes to analyze their training data using Excel or any other Office 365 application. Strava also has a great social networking component that allows users to share their accomplishments with friends, family, and even other athletes. One of the most impressive features of Strava is the ability to create Challenges. Challenges are created by Strava users who want others to compete against them in order to achieve a certain goal. Examples of challenges could include working towards becoming faster over a certain distance or trying to run more miles than someone else. Challenges are extremely effective in motivating athletes to train harder because they know that they will either beat or be beaten by another person.
Microsoft Office 365 is already one of the most powerful productivity suites in existence today. It has the capability to do almost everything that any other productivity suite can do. Integration with Strava has added even more functionality to Office 365. Although I do not personally use Strava, I understand its potential value as an additional top for athletes to utilize when training for an event. The integration of Strava into Office 365 will allow users to analyze even more aspects of their training progress than before. The ability to track an athlete’s performance over time can be very insightful. If an athlete knows what his/her mile time was at the beginning of the season and compares it to their mile time at the end of the season; he/she can tell if they are improving or not. This type of analysis has never been possible until now because there has never been an app like Strava available until recently. Integration with Strava will also give users the ability to share their accomplishments with friends and family through social networking capabilities built into Strava’s mobile application. The integration of Strava into Office 365 will also open up an entirely new market for Microsoft because not all athletes currently use iPhones or Androids like they do in order to use Strava’s mobile application. Many athletes only use Windows phones or Blackberry phones; therefore integration with Strava will allow Microsoft to increase its market share in the smartphone arena while also increasing Microsoft’s number of monthly subscribers through all of its products and services.
