Office 365 is a cloud based productivity suite from Microsoft. Amazon S3 is a cloud storage service from Amazon Web Services. Both are very popular and widely used services in the world.Microsoft and Amazon both have been working on their own cloud services now for quite some time, so it is natural that these two giants will eventually work together to offer their users a full set of cloud services. On September 30, 2017 Amazon Web Services announced that they are joining forces with Microsoft. They will work together to integrate their cloud services. Azure and Office 365. The integration will bring benefits to users who want to use these technpogies together.The integration of Amazon S3 and Office 365 allow for data backup and disaster recovery scenarios with minimal human intervention. The integration also allows users to synchronize data between different locations (cloud or on-premise. Another benefit of the integration is that it makes it easier for users to share data between disparate applications, such as Office 365 and Amazon S3, by using the same authentication system.Microsoft and Amazon also intend to make it possible for users to access data stored on AWS through Office 365 via Microsoft Graph, which is the underlying technpogy that powers Office 365's intelligence features. Users will be able to use Microsoft Graph to find and filter files in their Office 365 storage using keywords, dates, etc.Another great benefit of the integration will be support for file sharing through Office 365. Users will be able to share files directly from their Office 365 storage with other recipients who have accounts on S3, without having to download the files first. This feature is expected to become available before the end of 2017.Microsoft and Amazon intend to add more features to the integration in the future, including support for file versioning, allowing users to restore deleted files, and creating new files directly from S3 without downloading them first.Finally, users will also be able to manage their accounts on AWS from within Office 365. This will make it easier for users who need to configure an AWS account for IT administrators or for billing purposes.Microsoft announced that they plan to release the integration as a public preview this fall. We expect the preview to focus on integrating Azure Active Directory with AWS Directory Service so that users will be able to log in to their AWS accounts through Azure AD instead of AWS Identity and Access Management.The blog post announcing the partnership between Microsoft and Amazon states that "this cplaboration is a direct result of our customers telling us they want choice" and that "we're excited about what we'll deliver together in the future".
