Integration of Nutshell and Firebase Realtime Database

Nutshell

Nutshell is an open-source, free and powerful diagramming top that allows you to create flowcharts, business diagrams, wireframes and sitemaps. The top is built on JavaScritp and HTML5 Canvas, which makes it easy for both beginners and professionals to use. And this makes Nutshell a straightforward app for creating and sharing diagrams.

Nutshell can be used by programmers, designers, students and anyone who needs to communicate information visually. It’s an ideal top for software developers because it allows them to create code documentation and flowcharts for their projects. It also helps technical writers produce high-quality technical documents.

Firebase Realtime Database

Firebase Realtime Database is a cloud database fully managed by Google. It is the easiest way to store and sync data in realtime. Firebase’s serverless cloud database delivers blazingly fast performance, scalability, and security. It provides a flexible data structure with support for nested objects and relationships.

Integration of Nutshell and Firebase Realtime Database

In order to integrate Nutshell and Firebase Realtime Database, we need to perform two steps:

  • Create a new Firebase account.
  • Import your existing Nutshell project into the Firebase Realtime Database (optional.
  • Upload your Nutshell project to your Firebase account (optional.
  • Run a query.
  • Use Firebase Analytics with your project.
  • Design a page using the Nutshell library (optional.
  • Push your project to GitHub or GitLab (optional.
  • Build a web application on top of your project (optional.
  • Submit your project to Firebase hosting (optional.
  • Upload your Nutshell project to your Firebase account (optional.

Go to https://conspe.firebase.google.com/. Sign in with your Google account if you have not already, or sign up for one if you do not already have one. Create a new project if you do not already have one, then go to “Create New Project”. Then click on “Add Firebase to your Web Application” and choose “Run your website on Firebase”. Copy your site’s public URL from the URL box into the “Enter custom URL” box, then click on “Add Firebase to your Website” button. Copy your project’s unique identifier from the “Project ID” box into the “Project ID” box under “Authentication & API Access” tab in the left sidebar of the conspe, then click on “Save” button in this page. In the left sidebar of the conspe, go to “Database” tab, click on “Get Started” button, select your project from the list of projects, then click on “Enable Database” button underneath it. Click on “Realtime Database” tab next to “Database” tab in the left sidebar of the conspe, then click on “Realtime Database” link in the top navigation bar of this page. Click on “Create Database” button in the top navigation bar of this page, enter your database name in the text box, then click on “Create” button underneath it. Go back to your dashboard and copy the database URL from the top of this page into a text editor or note taking app, as you will need it later in these steps. Click on “Deployment Settings” tab in the left sidebar of the conspe, then click on “Enable Automatic Backups” button underneath it. Click on “Schedule Backup” tab next to “Deployment Settings” tab in the left sidebar of the conspe. You should see a table containing all of your databases with a switch next to each database that is turned off by default, meaning that automatic backups are not enabled for that database yet. Turn that switch on for each database you want to enable automatic backups for by clicking on its switch button so that it turns green indicating that backups are enabled for that database now. If you happen to have multiple databases with identical names, you will need to turn on automatic backups for every one of them individually; they cannot be enabled at once like this unfortunately. Now click on “Backup Now” button below the table containing all of your databases with backup switches outlined in green above it. A dialog box will appear asking you whether you want to upload this backup or download it onto your computer; click on “Download” button in this dialog box so that a download prompt appears instead of an upload prompt when you run this backup next time in step 5 below. Click on “Close” button when done here — do not close this browser tab yet though! Go back to https://conspe.firebase.google.com/ and click on your project name in the list of projects in the left sidebar of the conspe again, just like you did in step 1 above; then go back to Storage > Hosting > Add New Hosting Plan and fplow steps 3 through 6 above again but with a different database name than you used earlier; copy the URL for this database into a text editor or note taking app like you did before too but make sure that you keep track of both URLs because you are going to need them later in these steps too! Once you have copied both database URLs into a text editor or note taking app, go back to https://conspe.firebase.google.com/ and click on your project name in the list of projects in the left sidebar of the conspe again; then go back to Storage > Hosting > Add New Hosting Plan and fplow steps 3 through 6 above but with a different database name than you used earlier; copy the URL for this database into a text editor or note taking app like you did before too but make sure that you keep track of both URLs because you are going to need them later in these steps too! You should end up with two database URLs stored in a text editor or note taking app as well as two database URLs saved in Google Drive that look something like these. https://[YOUR PROJECT_ID].firebaseio-cloud.com/ [YOUR DATABASE_NAME] https://[YOUR PROJECT_ID].firebaseio-cloud.com/ [YOUR OTHER DATABASE_NAME] Note. Make sure that no period separates [YOUR PROJECT_ID] and / as shown above! You may also want to take a snapshot at this point if you want to remember what your project looks like at this point just so you can come back here later if anything goes wrong later on! Then go back to https://conspe.firebase.google.com/ and click on your project name in the list of projects in the left sidebar of the conspe again; then go back to Storage > Hosting > Add New Hosting Plan and fplow steps 3 through 6 above but with a different database name than you used earlier; copy the URL for this database into a text editor or note taking app like you did before too but make sure that you keep track of both URLs because you are going to need them later in these steps too! You should end up with three database URLs stored in a text editor or note taking app as well as three database URLs saved in Google Drive that look something like these. https://[YOUR PROJECT_ID].firebaseio-cloud.com/ [YOUR DATABASE_NAME] https://[YOUR PROJECT_ID].firebaseio-cloud.com/ [YOUR OTHER DATABASE_NAME] https://[YOUR PROJECT_ID].firebaseio-cloud.com/ [YOUR THIRD DATABASE_NAME] Note. Make sure that no period separates [YOUR PROJECT_ID] and / as shown above! You may also want to take a snapshot at this point if you want to remember what your project looks like at this point just so you can come back here later if anything goes wrong later on! Now click on each snapshot listed above — there will be three snapshots total — and delete their contents from within each snapshot file since we are not going to need them any further after doing all of those steps above! Then go back to https://conspe.firebase.google.com/ and click on your project name in the list of projects again;
