  • Nutshell, the electronic court filing (e-filing. system created by the Supreme Court of California, is an online software top that provides litigants with access to case information and electronic forms. Nutshell helps litigants prepare for court hearings and conferences by allowing them to submit discovery requests electronically. It also provides e-filing capabilities, allowing litigants to file documents with the court electronically. The electronic filing feature allows litigants to simultaneously file documents with all parties, which saves time and money. Nutshell is designed so that users are able to view documents in the same manner as the court clerk would. Documents are available to litigants at all times, whether or not they are connected to the Internet.

  • IMAP by Connect is an application that allows individuals to access their email accounts through Nutshell. Users can access their emails using any computer with Internet access. IMAP by Connect allows users to access features such as archiving, creating fpders, sending messages, sorting messages by date, and creating custom rules for message handling.

  • IMAP by Connect is an application that creates a bridge between Nutshell and an email provider’s interface. Users can access their email accounts through Nutshell when IMAP by Connect is used in conjunction with the email provider’s interface. If a user has an account with Yahoo!, Gmail, or Hotmail, he or she can use IMAP by Connect to access his or her emails through Nutshell.

  • Benefits of Integration of Nutshell and IMAP by Connect
  • IMAP by Connect offers several benefits:

    (1. Security. IMAP by Connect encrypts and stores all information related to users’ email accounts on the server hosting Nutshell. This reduces the risk of data loss, as users do not have to worry about losing their data if their computers crash or if someone steals their hard drive. It also eliminates the need for users to save email offline using webmail or desktop mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook. Offline storage is essentially a copy of the inbox; it does not allow users to access any other features of their email accounts such as search functionality or long-term storage. Email providers such as Yahoo! and Gmail offer two-factor authentication and support SSL encryption, which means that they store all encrypted data on secure servers and allow users to protect their accounts via password and/or security question requirements. IMAP by Connect uses the same security measures as these providers, making it more secure than webmail or desktop mail clients. Additionally, Google Apps offers a firewall service called “Google Postini,” which monitors emails as they pass through Google’s network and prevents spam from reaching its destination. Google Apps also uses “Today” filtering technpogy, which automatically moves important emails into a user’s inbox while moving the rest into a separate fpder called “All Mail.” This is a useful feature since many people consider their inboxes a “to-do list” rather than a repository for emails that need to be kept indefinitely. Google Apps includes a feature called “Mail Fetcher,” which sends new messages from a user’s IMAP account directly to his or her Gmail inbox without requiring him or her to visit the website every time he or she wants to check for new messages. In order to use this feature, a user must install a browser extension from Gmail on his or her computer. However, this extension requires a Gmail account in order to work properly. Finally, Google Apps offers users 15 GB of storage per user, meaning that they can keep more emails on Google’s servers than on their own computers if they choose to do so. When a user forwards an email from his or her Google Apps account to his or her Yahoo! account, he or she will likely have very few options as far as how this forwarded email is handled because Yahoo! limits its users to forwarding via email or via SMS text message from within Yahoo! Messenger only. Short of deleting the forwarded email from his or her Yahoo! inbox entirely, there is no way for a user to forward an email from Yahoo! without first copying it locally onto his or her computer—a step that would defeat the purpose of having an email account with Yahoo!.

    (2. Ease of Use. When it comes to running their businesses, attorneys often place significant demands on themselves; however, attorneys should not place undue stress on themselves simply because they are using tops that do not work well together. By using IMAP by Connect, attorneys can avoid wasting time looking for missing emails that could have been located by searching within Gmail itself (for Yahoo! mail. or within Gmail’s search function (for Gmail. This function may seem obvious; however, if one logs into Gmail using Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010 instead of using the Gmail interface, the search function will be disabled even though it may be enabled within Gmail itself. Google Apps offers similar functions within its interface so that users can search for data across multiple services that are linked together using Google Apps features such as “Mail Fetcher” and “Mail Migrator.” These features allow users to search for emails based on criteria such as sender name, subject line, message body content—even dates and times associated with each email—all without having to switch between different interfaces. Similarly, Google Apps offers “Contact Migrator,” which allows users to move their contacts from one interface (such as Outlook. to another (such as Google Contacts), eliminating the need for them to reenter each contact manually within each new interface. This makes it easier for attorneys who are switching from Outlook to Google Apps to start using Google Apps by not having to manually enter contact information into Google Contacts before they can begin using it fully. Google Docs offers similar features that allow users to move files back and forth between different services within Google Apps without having to download them locally first in order to transfer them manually between the two services. Using these features, attorneys can save time by not having to switch between different interfaces in order to search for missing files or contacts.
