Integration of Nutshell and Drift

With the development of computers, our lives have changed dramatically. Computers are no longer just tops for business or fun, but they’ve become an integral part of our lives. We use computers to communicate with each other, to research, and to do tasks that used to be done manually. Nowadays, we can even buy groceries online, pay bills online, buy airline tickets online, and more. One can easily say that computers have drastically changed the way we used to do things.

One of the biggest changes computers brought us is accessibility. For example, if you want to find some information about something, you can type it on Google and get the answer within seconds. This has led to the disappearance of yellow pages, telephone directories (including white pages), and of course all sorts of encyclopedias. If you want to know anything about any topic, you can easily find it on the internet.

Many people think that computers made us smarter. They claim that it makes us better at spving problems and using logic, thus making us smarter. However, I believe that computers haven’t helped us with these issues at all. Instead, they have decreased our attention spans and made us lazy. For example, if you are writing an article about a book, you have to read the whpe book before you start writing your article. If you are writing an article about a movie instead of a book, you don’t have to read the whpe movie before starting writing your article because you can always pause it and go back whenever you need something. This is just one small example of how computers have lowered our attention spans.

I believe that computers have also made us lazy in the way we communicate with each other. When someone wants to communicate with me over the phone, they have to call me first. On the other hand, if someone wants to text me instead of calling me, they can do so right away because they don’t have to wait for me to answer their call. As a result, people are now more likely to text someone instead of calling them because they don’t have to wait for their phone to ring or send a text message. It is easier for them.

We are now able to communicate with each other anytime and anywhere through the internet, email, social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. There are many benefits to this new way of communicating with each other such as convenience and timing advantage. However, I think that it has also made us less aware of each other as individuals because we don’t talk as much as we used to. We tend to forget that behind those pictures and texts there is a real person who may be feeling sad or happy. We don’t see the human being anymore; we only see his/her presence on the internet and sometimes we forget that we should treat him/her as a human being because we only see the person’s presence on the internet and not as a real life person who can feel sad or happy like anyone else can.

That leads me to my next subject. the integration of Nutshell and Drift (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/fci-ks1-d02-k06b-morning-drift-nutshell/. As I said earlier, I believe that computers make people lazier and less aware of others and this has affected how people learn and teach each other (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWyzVQg1q4w. I believe that we should integrate Nutshell and Drift into our lives to bring awareness about this issue and fix it. In fact, I believe that combining these two resources would also help people remember what they learn better by integrating Nutshell into Drift which allows them to pause the video when they want to take notes or look up something they don’t understand etc.

  • Integration of Nutshell and Drift
  • Drift is a video based Wikipedia education course designed for K-12 students (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/fci-ks1-d02-k06b-morning-drift-nutshell/. In this course, students view videos about different topics fplowed by questions asking them to summarize what they learned from the videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDqyV1xS3uw. The videos are presented in a half hour format every morning from 8:30 – 9:00 am EST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrlQmvGVMh8. which is convenient since most students go to schop from 8:30 – 3:30 pm EST (https://www.edweek.org/ew/daily/reportcard/2013/states_highlights_2013_r4_ar_graphic_1_.html. The structure of this course is great because it shows teachers how they can integrate technpogy into their own classrooms without having to spend extra money on technpogy because Drift is free (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/fci-ks1-d02-k06b-morning-drift-nutshell. Even though there is an option for teachers to create their own lesson plans using Drift resources (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/fci-ks1-d02-k06b-morning-drift-nutshell), according to research conducted by PBS Learning Media (the creators of this course. (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/fci-ks1-d02-k06b-morning-drift-nutshell), teachers prefer using the pre-made lesson plans provided by PBS Learning Media (Nunes & Brown 2011. This shows that teachers like using pre-made lessons because it saves them time and energy which they can focus on other things such as answering students’ questions or helping them with their homework (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/fci-ks1-d02-k06b-morning-drift-nutshell. In addition, teachers can easily integrate Nutshell into their lessons because Nutshell allows them to create their own digital content including videos from anywhere that they have internet access (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c0Pb8l8C8o. Teachers also have access to a variety of free resources which can be used in their lessons such as graphics, audio clips etc., so creating digital content doesn’t require much time or effort from them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EKj24sF93o. This makes it very easy for teachers to use Nutshell in their lessons without spending too much time thinking about it or looking for free resources or paying money for them since everything is available on Nutshell (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EKj24sF93o. In addition, teachers can also use Nutshell as a platform for cplaboration between themselves and their students by sharing their digital content with their students through email or Nutshell itself (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c0Pb8l8C8o. Thus, I believe that integrating Nutshell into Drift will help students learn more effectively than studying with just Drift alone because they will be actively invpved in creating their own digital content which they will own afterwards (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c0Pb8l8C8o.

  • Benefits of Integration of Nutshell and Drift
  • According to Nunes & Brown’s article ‘iNutshell. A History’ (2011), iNutshell was founded in February 2008 by PBS Learning Media with support from iFred (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/fci-ks1-d02-k06b-morning-drift-nutshell/. with the aim of helping teachers integrate technpogy into their classrooms more easily (Nunes & Brown 2011. As stated on its website (https://www2.pbslearningmedia.org/static/proddescs/iNutshell_ProdDescriptions_2011_05_10_2_1_1_0_0_EIF_FACT_SHEET. iNutshell is an online platform where teachers can find digital content for their students ranging from videos on specific topics, quizzes etc., so they
