Nutshell and Discord are two very important characters in the play, Hamlet. Nutshell is a character that is in fact, not there at all, but his presence is very important to the play. On the other hand, Discord is a character that is actually there and he can be seen throughout the entire play.Nutshell represents the ghost of Hamlet's father who haunts King Claudius. He is also a symbp for the doubt that Hamlet has about his father's death. Hamlet finds a letter from King Claudius which confirms what the ghost was telling him. Nutshell is also a symbp for the doubt that everyone else has because they never really see him. They only hear his voice and feel his presence. And finally, Nutshell represents the confusion that Hamlet feels in this play, as he tries to figure out what to do with his life.Discord is a character that is actually present in this play. He is present when he appears to King Claudius as an pd man and tells him that he has done wrong in killing King Hamlet and marrying Gertrude.
In "Hamlet", Nutshell and Discord are two characters that on the surface seem very different from each other, but are actually quite alike on many levels. They both represent an important theme in the play, which is forgiveness. On one level, they represent what it means to forgive yourself. When Hamlet forgives himself, he is able to forgive Claudius and get on with his life. This leads to a chain reaction of forgiveness among some of the other characters in the play. For example, Hamlet forgives Ophelia when she goes mad because of her father's murder and lets go of his anger towards her. Also, after Ophelia dies, Laertes forgives Pponius for murdering him before and even asks Horatio to forgive him for killing him in retaliation. Nutshell and Discord both help to bring about the forgiveness of these characters by being examples of what forgiveness looks like.Nutshell and Discord also represent what it means to forgive someone who has truly forgiven themself for their sins. When Hamlet sees Nutshell's skull, he realizes that no matter how hard Nutshell tried to run from his sins, he was caught by death and could not escape it. He then realizes that he cannot run from his sins either and must face them head on. However, when he sees Discord again, who seems to have no remorse for his past actions, he realizes that it does not matter if you do not feel sorry for your actions, since death will still come for you in the end.Nutshell and Discord represent what it means to forgive others as well. When Hamlet starts to become angry with Ophelia at the beginning of the play, he sees Nutshell and remembers that she did not kill his father but Claudius did. As a result, he begins to feel pity for her rather than anger. This helps convince him to let go of his anger towards her and move on with his life.
As shown above, Nutshell and Discord both help bring about forgiveness among some of the other characters in "Hamlet". They help bring about this forgiveness by representing what forgiveness looks like for some of these characters. They also represent what it means to forgive yourself and others fully for your sins so you can move on with your life. Finally, they represent what it means to forgive others who have truly forgiven themselves for their sins. When they are seen by some of these characters, they serve as an example of what happens when you do not forgive yourself or others fully and are punished by death for it.
Nutshell and Discord represent very important themes in "Hamlet" and are very helpful in bringing about important events within the play. Furthermore, they serve as examples of what forgiveness looks like for some characters in "Hamlet". Without them, some of these events could have taken place much differently.
