SMS Alert is a leading vendor in the field of mobile alerting and messaging services. It provides business applications and services to simplify the process of sending alerts to cell phones. According to its website, SMS Alert offers customers an easy way to send text messages (aka SMS. and multimedia messages to cell phones and pagers from desktop or web-based applications. It also has a very easy to use and powerful API that can be used in a variety of applications. The API allows you to send alerts and messages directly to any phone number. The SMS Alert API can be used in any application, whether it's a simple PHP-based web site, a complex Java application built for your enterprise's private network, or a custom application running on your own servers. All of these applications can use the same API to send text messages and multimedia messages to any phone number. With the power of the MySQL database and the value added by the SMS Alert API, we will be able to create an SMS alerting system based on our real life needs.
Integrating MySQL and SMS Alert will be relatively easy because they both use HTTP protocp. First, we will set up SQL Server running on a Microsoft Windows 2000 server. We will install MySQL 4.0 on this server as well. We will then install the SMS Alert API on this Windows 2000 server. Finally, we will configure the SMS Alert API to use our SQL Server as its back-end database via ODBC drivers and JDBC drivers. Then, we will create a simple PHP script that would connect to our SQL Server database via JDBC. By using this PHP script, we will be able to get data from SQL Server and send it via SMTP protocp to any specified mobile phone via SMS Alert API. The end result is that a user using his/her mobile phone could receive some kind of alert message from our database system by simply typing the user's mobile phone number into a Web form. The PHP script would do all the rest automatically. So when a user types his/her mobile phone number into a Web form, he/she would receive an SMS message sent from our PHP script via his/her mobile phone number.
By integrating MySQL and SMS Alert together, we can spve many problems that occur during business operations such as. 1. notifying employees about important events; 2. reminding customers of service agreements; 3. marketing purposes; 4. informing customers about the progress of their order, etc. The possibilities are endless!
