Integration of MongoDB Realm and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

MongoDB is a cross-platform database that can be used to power web and mobile apps, IoT devices, bots, and other products. MongoDB’s native driver for .NET is available as part of the core drivers. The driver enables applications to connect to MongoDB instances over ODBC or ADO.Net, or OData. The driver supports both client-server and embedded deployments of MongoDB.

Realm allows developers to store their app’s models locally, either on the device or in the cloud, enabling offline access and giving users the flexibility to work with data in their preferred environment. Apps built with Realm are often faster and more responsive than those using other persistence technpogies because Realm reads and writes directly to memory. This means there are no disk writes, network requests, or serialization stream copies. Realm uses memory-mapping to provide instant access to the underlying database file, which makes it very fast.

If you want to combine these two technpogies for building apps, you should consider connecting them to each other so that you can transfer data easily between them. This section will help you learn about the integration of MongoDB Realm with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (hereafter referred to as simply Dynamics 365.

Benefits of Integration of MongoDB Realm and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Combining these two technpogies results in benefits that include the fplowing:

The ability to create, read, update, and delete (CRUD. data from Dynamics 365 Business Central (Dynamics 365. using the Realm Object Server (ROS)

The ability to read data from Dynamics 365 Business Central (Dynamics 365. using the Realm Database platform (Realm Platform)

Data can be synchronized between Dynamics 365 Business Central (Dynamics 365. and MongoDB Realm using the Realm Object Server (ROS)

Data can be synchronized between Dynamics 365 Business Central (Dynamics 365. and MongoDB Realm using the Realm Database platform (Realm Platform)

Approach 1. Use a Sync Gateway with ROS and Realm Platform

To synchronize between MongoDB Realm and Dynamics 365 Business Central, you must have the fplowing:

A Sync Gateway that connects to both ROS and Realm Platform. You can use a self-hosted Sync Gateway or a Sync Gateway provided by a third-party service provider. In this guide, we use a self-hosted Sync Gateway. For details on setting up a self-hosted Sync Gateway, see Getting Started with Sync Gateway. Hereafter we will refer to this as self-hosted Sync Gateway. An application on a mobile device that communicates with ROS using the Core API through the Core SDK on a mobile device. In this guide, we use a mobile application named “Mobile Application” that communicates with ROS through Core API on a mobile device. For details on how to create a mobile application that communicates with ROS through Core API on a mobile device, see Mobile Applications Using Core API for C#. In this guide, we use the Mobile Application created earlier. A website that communicates with ROS through ODataV4 on the Web API. In this guide we use a website called “ROS Administration Website” that communicates with ROS through ODataV4 on the Web API. For details on how to create a website that communicates with ROS through ODataV4 on the Web API see Creating an ODataV4 Website for ROS. In this guide we use the ROS Administration Website created earlier. A code sample that shows you how to import data from Dynamics 365 Business Central into MongoDB Realm by calling an external service. In this guide we use a code sample that shows you how to import data from Dynamics 365 Business Central into MongoDB Realm by calling an external service. For details on how to create the code sample that shows you how to import data from Dynamics 365 Business Central into MongoDB Realm by calling an external service, see Code Sample.
