MongoDB is an open source document-oriented database so it can be integrated into Shopify easily and quickly. Shopify uses MongoDB to store all the data it needs to run smoothly. Some of these data are. customer information, order information, product information, search engine indexing, etc. These data are stored in different cplections which makes easier for Shopify to manage them. The fplowing image shows how data are stored in MongoDB:

All data are stored in cplections so we need some software to link these cplections together. This software will be called mongo_shopping_cart_plugin. It will connect to a specific cplection and gather data from this cplection on a regular basis. Then it will periodically transmit the information gathered to the server of Shopify so that the information can be accessed by developers or Shopify itself.
