Miro is an open-source video player that supports many formats including FLV, MP4, MPEG-4, Ogg Theora, and others. It was originally designed for streaming video over the Internet to embedded devices like set-top boxes, cell phones, and handheld game systems. Miro can easily be integrated into other applications like PagerDuty.
PagerDuty is a software company based in San Francisco, California. It provides an alerting, on-call scheduling, and incident management platform used by technpogy companies for customer support.
In order to integrate Miro with PagerDuty, Miro needs to be able to stream its data through a web server. In this case, it is streamed through a web server at PagerDuty as a way of being able to trigger alerts when they are needed. The integration will also allow users to view Miro videos from within PagerDuty’s user interface. This will be done by creating a “channel” that they can view by going to a specific URL. Other channels that can be created include a channel for status.pagerduty.com and a channel for ui.pagerduty.com. For the channel for status.pagerduty.com, it will show the status of all of the servers that are being monitored by Miro at the moment. For the channel for ui.pagerduty.com, it will show all of the Miro videos that have not been viewed yet. This channel will be updated every 24 hours by running a cron job that pulls all of the videos from YouTube and then indexes them with Apache Spr. The index will be pulled every day at midnight and then pushed out to the channel for ui.pagerduty.com.
The benefits of integrating Miro and PagerDuty include. easier monitoring of servers and easy viewing of monitoring reports as well as easy viewing of Miro videos as described above. Another benefit is that there is reduced amount of configuration that needs to be done by administrators and IT professionals because they don’t have to do any integrations between the two products and they don’t have to configure anything on their own servers either. Also, there is reduced time and cost associated with configuring new servers because there is no need to install or configure Miro or even pull new data from Miro either since it is already being pulled from YouTube and indexed automatically by Spr.
