Miro is an application developed by the independent nonprofit organization called The Participatory Culture Foundation. This open-source application was designed and developed to allow users to watch, read and listen to online content from all over the world. Miro’s interface is similar to that of iTunes because it has the same layout and organizes the content into different categories. Some of its features are:
GoToTraining is a training platform that helps companies train their employees. Its main feature is that it makes training sessions more interactive by allowing the trainer to send messages to students in a “chat room.” This feature allows students to actively participate in class discussions instead of just passively listening to the instructor. Other features include:
Since most people today have little patience for reading, they would rather view a video clip or listen to an audio clip instead of reading an article, watching a video or listening to an audio clip may prove more effective in getting the message across. GoToTraining already has a library of audio and video clips that can be used for training purposes; it would not be too hard to integrate Miro with GoToTraining so that a user can view an online content from the library in Miro. This integration can be beneficial for two reasons. The first reason is that it will save time for users who don’t want to read an article but would rather view it in a video clip or listen to it in an audio clip. The second reason why this integration would be beneficial is that it promotes GoToTraining as a more interactive platform for training. In addition, it will increase traffic to GoToTraining because many people are likely to download this application after they see it being used in another application. If Miro can easily integrate with GoToTraining, then other applications will also be able to do so. This will reduce the time and cost of developing applications by providing developers with ready-made modules that they can just plug into their platforms. Another upside of this integration is that users of these applications will have access to more content since there will be no limitations when it comes to accessing content from different sources. As mentioned earlier, Miro already has a wide variety of content from different sources; if Miro can integrate with GoToTraining’s library of media content, then users will have access to even more content than they can possibly consume. Also, this integration will promote GoToTraining and Miro because both applications will be seen together in various websites. By doing this, both applications can gain more recognition among users and benefit simultaneously. The negative side of this integration is that some users may find it difficult to use the features of both applications simultaneously because they may be used to using only one application at a time. However, once they get used to using both applications at once, they will probably like it. Another possible negative effect of this integration is that it may require Internet access, which may slow down the process of downloading a video clip from GoToTraining’s library into Miro. For example, if someone wants to view a video clip from GoToTraining’s library, it would take longer for him to download the clip through Miro than through GoToTraining’s proprietary application because he would need to download the clip from GoToTraining’s server first before he can view it through Miro.
In addition to the two benefits mentioned above, another benefit of integrating Miro and GoToTraining is that it would enable Miro users to easily download audio or video clips from sites other than GoToTraining’s library. Many people have certain sites where they find interesting articles or videos on certain subjects; if they can learn how to download these clips directly into Miro while they are doing research on these subjects in another website, then they can create their own channel or playlist in Miro without having to spend too much time creating it themselves. Also, they can easily share these channels with others who may also be interested in these subjects or other related subjects that they can also download clips from the same sites into their individual channels or playlists in Miro. This would also allow GoToTraining users who want to download audio or video clips from outside sources into GoToTraining but do not know how to do so easily, so they can just refer to the manual provided by Miro for guidance on how to do this. Another benefit of integrating Miro and GoToTraining is that it will allow them both to benefit from each other’s strengths. For example, Miro may provide a wider variety of online content than GoToTraining can provide alone since its main strength lies in providing online training; on the other hand, GoToTraining may find it easier to market itself if it integrates Miro into its software so that users will become more familiar with GoToTraining than if they had access only to GoToTraining’s proprietary software. Also, because both Miro and GoToTraining are free, integrating them will allow both applications to spread faster around the world because they will not require any payment from anyone who wants to use them. Another benefit of integrating these two applications is that their owners (The Participatory Culture Foundation and Skillsoft. will be able to promote their products better and reap the benefits of partnering with each other instead of competing against each other. As mentioned earlier, when Miro integrates with GoToTraining’s library, then potential customers may try out GoToTraning because they want access to all the information available in Miro but cannot find them anywhere else; if a user finds out that she likes GoToTraining after trying it out for a while, then she might purchase her own copy of GoToTraining so she can use its full potential without having to rely on the manual provided by Miro for instructions on how she can use its functions and features effectively. In addition, if someone has viewed a video clip from GoToTraining’s library but wants to use more advanced software for his training needs, then he might purchase his own copy of GoToTraining after he sees how much more advanced and helpful it is than what he already has with him now. Therefore, by integrating Miro and GoToTraining, both applications will be able to benefit tremendously from each other’s strengths and promote each other through partnerships instead of competing against each other competitively like before when they were selling their software separately through separate vendors.
