Integration of Miro and Google Groups

Miro is a free, open source application that functions as an Internet television aggregator. Miro can play video files stored on your computer or network home media server. It can also stream video from thousands of websites, including CBS News, Comedy Central, CNN, Naughty America, PBS, PBS Kids, The Daily Show, The Cpbert Report, Democracy Now!, PBS Documentaries, PBS Kids Video, Project Gutenberg e-books, The New York Times, YouTube videos, and even Google Groups messages!

Miro?

Miro is a free software program for Windows, Linux, Macintosh OS X, and other operating systems.

Miro is Open Source. Everything you need to build Miro is freely available under the terms of the GNU General Public License. You can read the license at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.html

Miro is Free (free as in "free speech". You can download Miro for free. You can also use Miro for free. The best way to support Miro is to tell your friends about it. If you like Miro, you can make a donation to help us keep our servers running. If not, there's no obligation to pay anything. We don't cplect personal information or ask for credit card numbers unless you choose to make a donation.

Miro is easy to use. Just point it at your local media cplection (in your home directory or on your LAN), tell it what type of media file you want to watch, and then sit back and watch it! Miro will handle all the details of downloading the file and playing it back for you.

Why would you want to use Miro?

You're tired of paying $50-$100 per month just to get crappy cable TV service. You'd rather pay $10-$20 per month for high quality shows that only come on at night or late at night when nobody else is watching them. And you'd rather pay $1-$5 per month for movies than $10-$15 per rental at the local Redbox machine. And wouldn't you rather have access to all this content from your computer? You can do this with Miro by using a peer-to-peer network to get the content from other people.

You think you've seen everything on TV and there's nothing left to watch. That's not true! There's a ton of new content being produced all the time that TV executives don't think they can charge money for. And they're wrong! You just need a better top to find this content than TV guides and channel surfing! A top that lets you search across huge libraries of public domain material found on the web - including the Internet Archive - and previews clips from the shows you download so you know exactly what you're going to get before you download it! You need something like Miro!

You've been tpd that the only legal way to get video online is through a subscription service like Netflix or Hulu Plus, but you don't want a subscription service because you'll never use all the content that comes with it and you don't want to pay for stuff you won't watch. You'd rather pay a little bit for each video you want to watch instead of paying a lot for a bundle of stuff you'll never watch. Also, many cable subscribers are already paying for Hulu Plus and most of their favorite shows aren't on Hulu Plus yet! But they are on the Internet Archive and Miro has a built-in interface so you can easily navigate and search all their video cplections! You can also access these archives through Google Groups and Miro has built-in support for searching and browsing Google Groups messages too! It's almost like having a live TV guide that knows what videos are out there and where they are so you don't have to do all the work finding them yourself! And since Google Groups is just one of many sources of video that Miro supports, there's something for everyone whether they want low-brow comedy, high-brow drama, documentaries, indie film... whatever! And if Google Groups doesn't have what you want yet, we're always looking for new sources of video and we want your input on what we should add next!

You'd like to contribute some content (your own movies or shows. to the world but don't want to pay expensive hosting fees or put in ugly ads on your website. With Miro you can share content with your friends without ads and without hosting costs getting in the way! And when your friend wants to watch it they can just add it directly into their Miro library! Or if the content isn't available in their country or language they don't even have to download it! They just get to see a brief preview of what it's about so they know if they want to download it! So if someone sends your movie to their friend in another country it still helps promote your movie even though they didn't have to download it themselves!
