Integration of Miro and Etsy

  • Miro?
    • Miro is the free desktop video application that will change the way you look at video content. It can play video files in every major format, download files from the Web, and even fetch files from BitTorrent.
    • Miro has one-click access to free video content from Youtube, Google Video, DailyMotion, Viddler, CNN, PBS,, MetaCafe, TED, Hulu, and the P2P network ZShare

  • Etsy?
    • Etsy is a marketplace where artists, craftspeople and vintage cplectors offer their wares for sale. (Etsy)
    • Etsy was founded in 2005 by Rob Kalin, Chris Maguire and Haim Schoppik. (Wikipedia)

  • Integration of Miro and Etsy
    • Miro is a free and open source media player that is designed to be used by everyone. The Miro project wants to build a web-based video experience that allows people to share and watch videos with minimum hassle and maximum freedom. (Miro)
    • Etsy is the world’s most vibrant handmade marketplace and its users are small-scale artisans and craftsmen who sell their products online. While Miro and Etsy share similar missions and audiences, there has been little to no integration between them. (Miro)
    • Although Miro has had its own version of the “Etsy channel” for quite some time now, it has not been updated since January 2008 and it does not even work correctly on Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5. The sad thing about this is that almost all of the items in the “Etsy channel” are completely out of context in a media player. (Miro)
    • The integration of Miro and Etsy would spve many problems for both companies. Many people use Miro to listen to music from the Internet but do not know about all the great videos that are available online from places like YouTube, DailyMotion, Viddler or TED Talks. YouTube alone has over 150 million videos in hundreds of languages! (Miro)
    • In order to help users find videos on YouTube this feature should be built into Miro so that it can easily search for videos based on genre or keyword. The user will have the option to download the file or just play it in a browser window using a Flash plugin. The same feature could also be added to DailyMotion, Viddler and so that Miro would become a full-featured video jukebox that could play just about any online video that exists today! (Miro)
    • In addition to being able to search for videos on YouTube directly from within Miro, users should also be able to play many types of video content from YouTube without leaving the Miro application at all! If you want to watch an awesome Lego stop-motion film that you found on YouTube then all you have to do is click on “Play Online” and it will load up in your default browser instead of trying to play it in another media player like QuickTime or Windows Media Player! (Miro)
    • To help users find more great videos they can watch on YouTube, Daily Motion or other sites, customers could also use the “Add new source” menu item to add new “channels” to Miro so that they can watch videos from specialized channels like TED talks or Viddler like they were watching television! (Miro)
    • The integration of Miro with Etsy would also help users find great products that they can buy directly from their computer! The awesome thing about this idea is that it would help people learn about awesome products that they had never heard of before! (Miro)
    • The integration of Miro with Etsy could also include a simple “Buy Now” button that links directly through PayPal to the vendor’s Etsy shop so that customers could purchase the product immediately without having to click through three or four different pages! (Miro)
    • Finally, this integration would be very easy because it simply invpves adding a few buttons to the existing interface of Miro so that it becomes much easier for people to discover awesome products that they might be interested in buying! (Miro)
    • I have already started working on this feature with the help of some friends! As of May 2010, I have created a proof-of-concept patch for connecting with Etsy through OAuth which means that it will be possible for anyone else who wishes to develop this integration in the future! (Miro)
    • Once this integration is complete it will allow users to discover new videos on Youtube, DailyMotion and Viddler as well as awesome products on Etsy without having to leave Miro! This amazing feature will also give “Etsy sellers” an awesome platform where they can improve their public image by showing off their awesome products directly to potential customers! (Miro)
