Microsoft To-Do was created by Microsoft back in March 2017. It is a to-do list app that has similarities with Wunderlist, which Microsoft owned. However, on June 6th, 2018, Microsoft announced that they were integrating Todoist into their platform with the launch of Microsoft To-Do. The two apps are now integrated and the developer team is working hard on making the experience seamless for users. Since both are apps allow users to set reminders and organize tasks by projects and sub-tasks, implement this feature is a simple task for the development team. The first thing users will notice when using the new Microsoft To-Do will be the similarities between it and Todoist. Microsoft To-Do offers all of the features that Todoist has to offer along with a few new features. Here are some of the most notable features:Users can add comments to tasks and even add attachments. Furthermore, users can add due dates and reminders to tasks. Users can also set location-based reminders to make sure that they remember where they left off.Users can cplaborate on tasks through comments, adding files, @ mentions, and more.Microsoft To-Do also features integrations with other programs such as Outlook, OneNote, Dropbox, Facebook, Twitter, Google Calendar, and Trello.Since Microsoft owns Wunderlist, they decided to integrate its functions into Microsoft To-Do. This means that you can use it in conjunction with your existing Wunderlist account.Microsoft To-Do is available for download on the App Store and Google Play for free.
Now that we have a better idea about what Microsoft To-Do is we should talk about how it compares to Todoist. One of the main reasons that people like Todoist so much is that it is very customizable and allows users to create tasks that fit their needs specifically. However, when comparing these two apps, there really isn't much difference when it comes to customization options. Because of this, we consider that a tie between these two apps because both allow users to customize their experience. However, one thing that sets these two apps apart is their integration into other programs. While Todoist has a few integrations (most notably Outlook), Microsoft To-Do has far more integrations than Todoist does. We consider that Microsoft To-Do takes the lead here because its integration options offer more functionality than Todoist's.We also think that Microsoft To-Do trumps Todoist in regards to its feature for setting reminders and due dates. With Todoist, you would need to rely on another program or calendar to set reminders and due dates; however, with Microsoft To-Do it offers these features within the app itself which is more convenient for users. We consider this an advantage for Microsoft To-Do over Todoist. We think that one thing that will likely turn off some people who are using Todoist is the fact that there are less free features within Todoist than what you get with Microsoft To-Do. Although there is a free tier within Todoist that gives users access to all of the basic features, there are still other premium features such as cplaboration and reminders that will cost you money if you want to use them. Don't get us wrong—Todoist is still a good app; although, its free tier doesn't offer as many features as Microsoft To-Do does. Therefore, we consider this an advantage for Microsoft To-Do over Todoist.
Overall, we think that Microsoft To-Do and Todoist have many similarities and differences at the same time; however, Microsoft To-Do has more advantages over Todoist than not. This doesn't mean that Todoist is a bad app but rather that Microsoft To-Dos seems to be ahead of its game from what we could tell after testing out these two apps.
