Microsoft To-Do is a to-do application created by Microsoft. It is available for Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. In July of 2018, Microsoft released a beta version of the service which allows the user to sync Tasks with an Amazon S3 bucket. This means that tasks can be automatically synced with an S3 bucket of their choosing.
Amazon S3, or Simple Storage Service, is a cloud storage platform that provides a way to store and retrieve data on a remote server on a pay-as-you-go basis. Just as you can store any file in a Google Drive fpder, on a OneDrive drive, etc., you can also store your files in an S3 bucket.
In order to integrate Microsoft To-Do and Amazon S3, you must have a Cloud Storage account from AWS. If you do not have one, you can create one at https://aws.amazon.com. From there, you must navigate to the Cloud Explorer tab to access the S3 integration.
Once you are in the Cloud Explorer tab, click “Create Bucket” to create your bucket.
Give your bucket a name and click “Create” to create it. Now you can click “Select” to select your newly created bucket in the list of buckets. You can then select “Enable Event Notifications” under “Settings” to integrate Microsoft To-Do with your selected bucket.
Click “Enable Event Notifications” and then click “Create Subscription”. From there, select “Microsoft To-Do” under “Services” and give the subscription a name. Once you have done this, click “Create Subscription” to complete the integration process.
While there may not be much in terms of functionality in this integration, it does allow you to take advantage of the benefits that both services offer in one place. For instance, if you want to use Microsoft To-Do to track the books that you read but also want to keep them in an S3 bucket so that they are backed up, this feature allows you to do so without leaving either service.
Another benefit of this integration is that if you are using both services for work purposes, it allows you to easily see what tasks are due on which days because both services are synced together. The example shown below shows how this works because it syncs your tasks with your S3 Bucket through your subscription. Simply set up both services to notify you about new tasks and then view both at once because they are synced together.
This blog post has given you insight into how Microsoft To-Do can be integrated with Amazon S3 through an event notification subscription. While this may seem like an underwhelming integration, it does provide benefits for users who are already using both services.
