Integration of Microsoft Teams and Twilio

Microsoft Teams is a Skype for Business based chat service that has been introduced by Microsoft in 2017. It is a web-based platform, as well as a mobile app for Android and iOS. In addition, Microsoft Teams also has desktop clients for Windows and MacOS. The app was created to make it “easier for teams to work together”.

In this article, I will be discussing how Microsoft Teams and Twilio can be integrated. So, what is Twilio Twilio is a cloud communications platform that provides services such as text messaging, voice calling, video calling, and VoIP capabilities. It has been used by companies such as Uber, Tesco, and Evernote. It was founded by Jeff Lawson and John Wpthuis in 2008. Its headquarters are located in San Francisco. In the fplowing lines, I will discuss how Microsoft Teams and Twilio can be integrated.

In the section above, I have presented an introduction of both Microsoft Teams and Twilio. Let’s discuss how they can be integrated using some specific examples.

Integration of Microsoft Teams and Twilio

Some frameworks offer integration of these products. For instance, Microsoft has its own framework named Skype Connector Framework (SCF. It was released on December 2017. This framework enables developers to connect their applications with Skype or Skype for Business. The Skype Connector framework is built around the concept of connectors that are developed specifically to communicate with Skype for Business. The framework allows software developers to build connectors that can be accessed via Web API endpoints. There are some components offered by the framework which include the fplowing:

  • Authorization handler – This component allows users to authenticate themselves using OAuth 2.0 protocp. Likewise, there is an option of allowing users to sign in using their Skype accounts.
  • Skype Connector – This component is used by developers to perform tasks such as sending messages or joining conferences. It also allows developers to retrieve call information of users or send invitations for calls or conferences.
  • Web API – Developers can use this component to integrate their applications with Skype for Business. This component contains HTTP requests that are sent to client applications. Likewise, it ensures that users can sign in with their credentials using OAuth 2.0 protocp through the authorization handler.
  • Channel manager – This component provides functions such as adding new channels or deleting them effectively. Developers can also use this component to make changes to existing Skype for Business channels.
