Microsoft Teams is a team cplaboration top that is part of Office 365. It was launched by Microsoft on March 30th 2017 and presently boasts over 70,000 organizations using the top.Microsoft Teams is an alternative to Slack that offers similar features such as group chat, video calls, file sharing and more.Microsoft Teams is a chat-based workspace where users can create channels based on projects or teams. Channels are a cplaborative space for teams to work together in real time. The Toggl integration with Microsoft Teams allows users to track their time on Microsoft Teams. This integration supports all the features that Toggl has to offer including recording time from within the Microsoft Teams interface. This is a powerful alternative to the native Microsoft Teams timer as it allows users to record time on any channel and from any device.Toggl's integration with Microsoft Teams works by setting up a timer in Toggl and then adding it to a channel via an add-on.Users simply click the add-on and choose the timer they want to add to the channel, this will create a link that you can share with other users. This link will send users directly into the timer and allow them to start tracking time straight away.
When integrating Toggl with Microsoft Teams you have two options; you can either record time manually or have the timer automatically record your time. Here is how you do each of the above methods.Automatically tracking time:If you want Toggl to automatically track your time when working in a Microsoft Teams channel you will need to set a default timer in Toggl and then sync your account before proceeding. To do this fplow the steps below.Setting a default timer:
8. You will now see your default timer under "Default timers"Syncing your account:
4. Your account will now be synced and you're ready to start tracking time in Microsoft Teams!Manually tracking time:If you don't want Toggl to automatically track your time in Microsoft Teams you can simply create a timer manually instead. To do this fplow the steps below.
Go to https://www.toggl.com/microsoft-teams/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=teamsauto and click the green "Start" button.
Click "Create new project" and give it a name you will remember (note that this name will be how other people find your timer, make sure it's easy to recognize!)
Select the user(s. you want to track time for and click "Save". If you want to track everyone who is using Toggl on their computer simply enter * as the username. For example I would enter "*@emailaddress.com". I would not recommend adding specific usernames like this as it could cause issues down the line when employees leave your company or change email address. Instead I would recommend adding specific groups of users (e.g sales team, support team etc.. or even better using tags.
You will now see a list of all your timers which you can edit or delete by clicking on them. If you want to edit your newly created timer click on it and update the name, description and default duration (in minutes. Once finished click "Save changes". When finished, click "Save project & close" at the bottom of the screen.
Go back to https://www.toggl.com/microsoft-teams/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=teamsauto and click the green "Start" button again. This time select "Add Project ID" from the dropdown menu and enter your project ID that we created earlier (the one we created in step 2. The project ID is found on the top left of your project page on Toggl in the URL bar e.g https://www.toggl.com/projects/123456789?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=teamsauto . You should also have received this project ID in an email when you created your project e.g [email protected] . We will use this project ID later on when we sync our account so make sure you don't lose it!
Now click "Start tracking times!" on https://www.toggl.com/microsoft-teams/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=teamsauto . You'll get taken straight into Toggl where you'll see a prompt which asks if you want to open this link with Microsoft Teams or save it as a shortcut on your PC or Mac desktop or mobile device (this means you can open it without needing Microsoft Teams. Click whatever option suits you best!
Go into Microsoft Teams and open the channel that you want to track time in (we'll be doing this in just a bit. Click "Share" at the top right hand corner of the screen then click "Add on". On the screen that appears click "Get Add-ons" then search for "toggl". On this screen, click the one called "Toggl for Microsoft Teams" then click "Add". This will ask for permissions so click "Allow access" if you're asked for permission then click "Finish". If you're asked again about giving access, click "Allow access" again then click "Done". The Toggl add-on will now appear on your screen, click it once and click "Start timer". The timer will begin counting down from however long you have set it for! To stop the timer simply click it again and click "Stop timer". If you'd like more information about how Toggl works with Microsoft Teams check out our blog post by clicking here
