Integrate Microsoft Teams with Reddit

Microsoft Teams is an enterprise team cplaboration service provided by Microsoft. It was first released for Windows 10, iOS, Android, MacOS and Windows 10 Mobile platforms.

Microsoft Teams is capable of integrating with other services like Slack, Twitter, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. It also allows users to create chat rooms, share documents, share calendars, etc.

Reddit is a social news aggregation website that allows its users to submit links to other websites. The submissions are categorized into different categories called “subreddits”. Users can either view the links or participate in discussions by posting comments. Users can also upvote or downvote submissions made by others.

There are several ways in which Microsoft Teams can integrate with Reddit.

Office 365 Groups integration with Reddit

Office 365 Groups are groups created within Office 365. They consist of teams at work, schop or university. The groups are generally created automatically based on the relationships between members. Users can manually create groups as well.

There is an option to connect Office 365 Groups to Reddit. This way you can see all the posts submitted to your company’s subreddit in your Office 365 Group. The posts will be categorized according to the group’s category. You can also post new links to the group’s subreddit from your group’s channel.

This integration makes it easy for you to see all the important information submitted to your company’s subreddit in one place. If you are a group administrator, it will be easier for you to manage all the submissions and discussions happening on the subreddit of your company. This integration will allow you to keep all your employees updated with all the important news and updates happening within your company.

Channel Integration with Reddit

Apart from connecting Office 365 Groups to Reddit, Microsoft Teams also allows you to create channels that integrate with subreddits of your choice. To create such a channel, fplow these steps:

Open Microsoft Teams and click on the Channel tab on the left of the screen Select Channel Settings from the list on the left of the screen Under Channels Integration heading, click on Add Channel Integration Enter the name of the subreddit and click on Save Changes on the right of the screen Select the subreddit name and click on Connect at the bottom of the page on the right of the screen Reddit will ask you for permission to share data with Microsoft Teams. Click on Allow button and on Connect button at the bottom of the page on the right of the screen When you return back to Microsoft Teams after successfully connecting your channel with Reddit, you will see a Reddit icon on your channel (If you don’t see it, go back to Channel Settings and click on Save Changes. Now you can share links from that subreddit onto your channel by clicking on Reddit icon and selecting Share Link When a user clicks on a shared link from a channel they will be redirected to a web browser where they can view a preview of the link and comment on it if they wish to do so

Note. As mentioned below under Benefits of Integration of Microsoft Teams and Reddit, Reddit comments can only be posted through a web browser. So users who click on a link from a channel will have to use a web browser if they want to comment on that post from within Microsoft Teams. Users won’t be able to comment from within Microsoft Teams if they click on a link from a channel. They will have to open their web browser and log in to their Reddit account if they want to comment on a post from a channel in Microsoft Teams. So make sure you post a link from a channel which has been shared by another person if you want them to comment on it from within Microsoft Teams itself. Otherwise make sure you provide them with a link that redirects them straight into their web browser when they click on it from inside Microsoft Teams. Make sure there is no blank space before or after the link when sharing from within Microsoft Teams as this may prevent users from commenting from within Microsoft Teams itself. However if there is a blank space before or after the link when viewed from within Microsoft Teams and if users try commenting on it from within Microsoft Teams, they will be able to do so without any issues.
