Then provide details that explain why your story is relevant or compelling (i.e., it will help readers understand what happened or why it matters. Analogies are comparisons between two objects that allow us to see similarities between them (e.g., comparing schops to prisons. As a result, analogies can present new perspectives by helping us see pd problems in terms of new contexts and shed light on our understanding of something we thought we knew well before (e.g., freedom IS slavery. Also, using analogies can help readers understand complex topics by putting them in familiar language and frame of reference — something that we do all the time in our everyday conversations! 8. Organize your article by making a list (or lists. of items associated with a particular topic. Lists are great for organizing your writing because they usually contain multiple points related to one another (as opposed to just one point per paragraph), so they naturally lend themselves to building an article around a series of arguments rather than just one point. This means that they are especially good for addressing multiple perspectives about one issue or topic — the kind of argumentative writing that is required for many academic assignments! 9. Organize your article by using different characters or individuals in your stories as examples or evidence for your argument(s. In this technique, instead of using facts or studies as evidence for your argument, you use people who have experienced certain events or situations as evidence for your thesis statements or claims (e.g., “I had such-and-such experience” is evidence for my claim “…”. This is helpful because it allows readers to empathize with others who are experiencing the same thing they are or might be experiencing in the future (e.g., what if this happens to me?. so they can see how they might feel and think about something important in their lives (e.g., schop. in a new light! 10. Organize your article by organizing it around different types of rhetorical appeals (like pathos, logos, and ethos. used by authors in different types of texts (like speeches, reports, letters. Rhetorical appeals are devices authors use in their writing (like examples, analogies, metaphors. that help persuade readers to accept their perspective or buy into their argument (i.e., shows us why we should believe their claims. For example, authors use pathos when speaking directly to readers by appealing to their emotions (e.g., fear), logos when providing logical reasons as support for their claims (e.g., statistics), and ethos when showing an expert authority on a subject and letting readers know why they should trust him/her (i.e., quotes experts. If you organize your article based on these three rhetorical appeals — pathos , logos , and ethos — then it will be easier for readers to fplow along with each part of your argument because it will all tie back into one idea using different appeals! 11. Organize your article around one question that is answered by citing evidence from different sources like experts and research studies. This strategy works best when writing analytical articles because it helps students make sure they’re defining terms clearly and fairly as well as presenting all sides of an issue equally before coming up with their own conclusion about whether or not something is true based on all available information (i.e., other people’s perspectives. To organize your article this way. First identify a specific question that needs answering based on previous research done on the topic (i.e., “Is homework beneficial?”. Next, find 3-5 credible sources that each have a different viewpoint on this question (i.e., experts who say it is beneficial and experts who say it isn’t. Then take note of what each source tells us about whether or not homework is helpful or harmful without forming any opinions at this point yourself! Finally, summarize all the information from each source until all sides of the argument have been represented equally — each person saying something different about a similar subject! Then make a judgment based on how these experts define their terms and if they are fair in representing both sides without bias! 12. Organize your article like an outline where each point has its
