Integration of Microsoft Excel and PagerDuty

Integration between Microsoft Excel and PagerDuty allows a user to automatically create a ticket from data generated from Microsoft Excel directly into PagerDuty’s ticketing system. This integration enables users to have a seamless experience whether they are using PagerDuty or Microsoft Excel to report incidents or problems.

This integration also helps facilitate the process of creating tickets using both of these applications. When a user uses the integration feature, they must first configure rules for generating tickets with PagerDuty. These rules can be configured for any number of specific conditions and triggers. For example. you may want to create a ticket when a cell in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet is empty (no data. Another example would be if a cell contained a specific value (such as “error” or “critical”. You may also configure it so that if a specific cell has been changed (such as changing the contents of the cell), then a ticket will be generated as well. The rule can be as specific as detecting one or more specific words or phrases in a cell or spreadsheet. The potential for how you configure these rules is limited only by your imagination, and it is easy to set up and configure them all through the PagerDuty interface. Once you have created and configured the rules you want to use for generating tickets with PagerDuty, you can then begin to trigger those rules through Microsoft Excel commands such as “If formula <> ‘ERROR’ Then create ticket”. This will allow you to capture information generated from Microsoft Excel and send it directly into PagerDuty’s ticketing system without having to go back and forth between each application.
