    • Create an outline for an article about the history of the development of the first computer, the ENIAC computer:

  • The first computer, ENIAC, was developed in 1935 by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly. As the first general-purpose programmable computer, it was capable of being reprogrammed to spve a full range of computing problems. ENIAC was used to create tables for use with artillery to compute firing tables for guns, ballistic trajectories, etc. It was also used to calculate the trajectory of the first hydrogen bomb. It was used for many other tasks as well, including calculating trajectories for missile research and even for NASA to track satellites and spacecrafts.
  • In 1945, this machine was considered so important that it was classified as top secret and was kept in a locked vault at the University of Pennsylvania until it was decommissioned in 1955 and dismantled and shipped to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland where it was destroyed in an explosion during a test in 1973. The hardware is still classified as secret by the U.S. government and there is no information on the design principles or functioning of the machine available to the public. The only documentation of its existence is a picture of ENIAC and a few scraps of text detailing some of its characteristics and abilities found in declassified documents.
