  • Integration of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and CloudTalk
  • In this article we will look at an example that shows how to use CloudTalk to develop an integration between Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and a domain application. We will be using a scenario in which a company called Acme wants to integrate its Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with a custom built application built in .NET. For the purposes of the example we will assume that Acme want to use CloudTalk to expose data from its custom app to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. In order for this integration to work we will need to create a new application in Acme’s Dynamics 365 Business Central org, create a new application in the custom app, create a web service in the custom app that can communicate with Acme’s Dynamics 365 Business Central server, code the event handler in the web service that communicates with Dynamics 365 Business Central, build an adapter in CloudTalk that uses the web service exposed by Acme’s custom app, deploy the app in Microsoft Azure and finally write some code in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central that will call into this adapter.

Figure 1 shows the diagram for this integration.

  • Benefits of Integration of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and CloudTalk
  • The benefits of this integration are numerous. They include:

Reducing development time . Since most of the work invpved in writing an integration is done in an existing application in the cloud it reduces the time required in custom development since all the necessary functionality already exists in an application created in Microsoft Azure. All one needs to do is deploy it in Azure and connect it to the application in question using CloudTalk. This leads to faster time to market for new features. Lower cost . Since all the heavy lifting is done by existing applications in the cloud there is no need for costly custom development. This leads to lower costs when deploying new features. Easier maintenance . Since all the functionalities are already present in existing applications any changes required in them are just code changes which are easy to maintain. Multi-tenancy . Since all of these functionalities are being exposed via standard web services it can be easily reused by other developers who have knowledge of the standard web technpogies used by CloudTalk. Hence multiple applications can reuse these functionalities without having to worry about re-implementation of these functionalities again.
