Mattermost is an open source, private cloud Slack-alternative software. It is a great top to communicate teams as it can be used as a private communication platform. With Mattermost, you can host your own server or install it in the cloud. It has a web interface and desktop applications for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.A very similar product to Mattermost is Basin which also offers a free open source spution for communication in teams but with more advanced features. For example, with Basin you can create meeting rooms, video conferencing, channels etc.It integrates with Mattermost which makes it possible to add custom integrations that enhance the cplaboration of teams using Mattermost and Basin. As far as I know, there are three main components that are integrated between Mattermost and Basin:
There are three main ways of integrating Mattermost with Basin.
1. Sharing Team RoomsBy creating Team Rooms on the Basin server, it becomes possible to share these rooms with other users who have a Mattermost account. There are two ways of sharing Team Rooms. In one way, the team room can be created on the Basin server and then added to the shared spaces of the Mattermost server. This will allow you to join the room in Mattermost. However, I think this is not the best option since you would have to create all team rooms on the Basin server which may be overkill if you just want to use one or two team rooms.2. Creating Team Rooms on the Mattermost serverThe second way of creating Team Rooms is by creating them on the Mattermost server itself. You can do so by adding an integration with Mattermost which will allow you to create a meeting room directly from your Mattermost account. However, this will not automatically sync any users that are invited to the meeting room. In order for them to join, they must have a Mattermost account as well. This approach has the advantage that all team rooms will be created on your own server and that only those who are invited will be able to join the meeting room. Therefore, there is no need to worry about additional users joining your team rooms and consuming resources on the Basin server. Another advantage of using this approach is that it allows you to customize the look and feel of your meeting rooms using themes provided by Mattermost. In addition to that, you can also provide access to your meeting rooms through email invitations or QR codes which makes it easier for non-Mattermost users who are not familiar with the application to join your meeting rooms.3. Using Private Channels on Mattermost ServerThe third way of integrating your Mattermost server with Basin is by using private channels on your Mattermost server. This approach is very similar to creating Team Rooms on the Mattermost server itself (mentioned above. except that instead of creating meeting rooms, private channels are created on the Mattermost server which can be accessed through a link that can be sent via email or through mobile applications such as WhatsApp. This link will display a QR code that can be scanned by users who want to join your channel. When scanning this link, users will be prompted with a screen that shows them an overview of discussions taking place in this channel and if they want to join they can click "Join Channel". This approach has some advantages over the other approaches mentioned earlier as it does not require you to create an integration with Forumotion in order to create meeting room or invite users via email or mobile application as it does not require any link or QR code - rather, users simply enter a URL in their web browser. The disadvantage of this approach is that you cannot customize the look and feel of your chat rooms like you would with Team Rooms. The creation of Team Rooms via integration with Mattermost is a great way of integrating your Mattermost instance with Forumotion's Basin! By doing so, you have the option of creating meeting rooms on either your Forumotion or Mattermost server! As long as you have an existing account on both platforms, there is no reason why you should not integrate your software stack!
