Amazon SNS

Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS. is a service that enables developers to easily add messaging functionality into their applications. SNS uses push notifications to deliver messages from subscribed sources to subscribed clients. A client can be an application running on a compute resource such as a laptop or mobile device, or a common web browser. A notification source can be an AWS service such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), or any third-party Web service or application. When an event occurs, the notification source sends a notification message to the SNS service. The SNS service delivers the notification message to each subscribed client. The fplowing diagram provides an overview of SNS components and how they interact with each other.

Integration of Mailshake and Amazon SNS

  • First of all, you need to create an account on Mailshake. This can be done at https://mailshake.com.
  • After setting up your account, log in to Mailshake and choose “Integrations” from the top menu bar. There are many 3rd party services available for Mailshake integration, but for this tutorial you will be integrating Mailshake with Amazon SNS. Click on the “Add Integration” button and choose “Amazon SNS” from the dropdown menu.
  • On the next screen, select the AWS Region where your account is located. If you have not created an AWS account before, you can click on the link provided at the bottom of the page to learn how to set one up quickly.
  • Next, enter your AWS Access Key ID (Secret Key. and Default Region (must be same as where you selected AWS region. Please make sure you copy these keys correctly. Then, click “Next” to proceed with configuration of your integration. You should see the fplowing screen on your screen after clicking “Next”, indicating that your integration is complete:
  • Now that your integration with Amazon SNS is complete on Mailshake, you will see it on your list of integrations alongside all other integrations that you have added. Now that you have successfully integrated your Mailshake account with Amazon SNS, you can proceed with sending out push notifications to your users through push notifications through Amazon SNS. For example, if you wanted to send out push notifications to new subscribers on your Mailshake list, you would go to your Mailshake account and click on the “Integrations” tab just like before and then choose “Amazon SNS” again. This time, however, you will want to click on the “Subscriptions” tab instead of “Integrations” since you need to modify subscriptions instead of creating new ones. On this page, there will be a table with all of your subscription groups that you created in Mailshake earlier. In order to set up your push notifications through Amazon SNS now that integration is complete, find the subscription group that you wish to send push notifications to and click on the “Add Notifications” button as shown below. This will bring up a page where you can configure your notifications much like before by choosing which events will trigger notifications and what information will be included in those notifications depending on what type of event it is for which you are sending a push notification through Amazon SNS. Once you have made all of your choices for which events will trigger push notifications and what information will be included in those notifications for each event type, click “Save Changes” at the bottom right corner of this page and then click “Continue” at the bottom left corner of this page to bring up another page where you can schedule your notifications according to your needs. At this point, you have successfully integrated your Mailshake account with Amazon SNS so that you can send out push notifications through Amazon SNS at any time! The last step is to go back into your Mailshake account and go back into your Integrations tab once again, but this time click on the “Alerts” tab instead of “Subscriptions” since we need to set up alerts instead of subscriptions this time around. This will bring up a page where you can configure all alerts that will be sent out whenever an event occurs such as when someone subscribes or unsubscribes from your list as well as when someone opens or clicks on any emails you send out through Mailshake. Once again, after making all of your choices for which events will trigger alerts and what information will be included in those alerts for each event type, click “Save Changes” at the bottom right corner of this page and then click “Continue” at the bottom left corner of this page to bring up another page where you can schedule your alerts according to your needs. If everything goes according to plan and there are no issues with integration between Mailshake and Amazon SNS, then you should start receiving push notifications whenever there is an event such as someone subscribing or unsubscribing from your list as well as when someone opens or clicks on any emails you send out through Mailshake!
