Integration of Mailgun and Google Tasks

  • Mailgun is a great service that allows you to send and receive emails in a simple, reliable way.
  • Google Tasks is a great way to organize your daily tasks. You can create your own lists of tasks and share them with other people.
  • This article will outline how to use these two services together to help you be more productive.
  • A. The first step to using Mailgun and Google Tasks together is to set up your account on Mailgun. You can create an account at mailgun.com then go to the API conspe. The link to the API conspe will be on the top right-hand corner of the site once you log in. This will take you to the Mailgun API conspe. Once there, you should see something like this:There are some fields that you will have to fill in before you can use Mailgun. First, you will have to enter your domain name in the "Domain Name" section. In the "Authentication" section, you will have to choose between two options. "OAuth2" and "Basic Auth". If you choose OAuth2, you will need to register a new application account with Mailgun and get a client ID and client secret from the API conspe. If you do not choose OAuth2, you will have to create a user account and enter your username and password.Once you have created your account, you can start using it. To send an email, you will have to use the fplowing format:https://api.mailgun.net/v3/YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME/messages/?key=YOUR_API_KEY&to=EMAIL_ADDRESS&from=YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS&subject=SUBJECT_LINE&text=THE_TEXT_OF_THE_MESSAGETo receive an email, make sure that your domain name is set up correctly for Mailgun and that the MX records point to Mailgun, then change the format of the URL in the above example to this:https://api.mailgun.net/v3/YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME/messages/?key=YOUR_API_KEY&receive=true

    B. The second step is to integrate Google Tasks with Mailgun so that you can create tasks from emails that you receive on your website. To do this, you will have to install the Google Tasks API for PHP on your server. To get the script, go here . Once there, click on "download Google Tasks API for PHP".Once you download the script, unzip it; then upload it to your server via FTP or SFTP. On your server, navigate to the directory containing the files, then open index.php in any text editor. Then add these lines under $options after the line that says '$title = "<b>$title</b>";':$clientId = "<MY CLIENT ID HERE>"; // My Google Developer Conspe Client ID <--- Replace me!$clientSecret = "<MY CLIENT SECRET HERE>"; // My Google Developer Conspe Client Secret <--- Replace me!Save index.php and upload it back to your server via FTP or SFTP. To test the integration, open your browser and go to this link . http://127.0.0.1/task/todo?key=[YOUR API KEY]&method=POST&tid=[TASK TITLE]&priority=[YOUR PRIORITY]&body=[YOUR NOTES ABOUT THE TASK]The task should be added to your Google Tasks account now!C. The last step is to connect Mailgun and Google Tasks together so that when an email comes into Mailgun, it will automatically create a task in Google Tasks with the subject line of the email as the task name and the body of the email as notes about the task. To do this, you'll need another developer key from Google called an OAuth2 token. To get one, go here . Once there, click on "Create new Client ID" in the top right corner of the screen; then click on "Web application". Fill out all of the information under "Authorized Redirect URI" (don't worry - it's pretty self-explanatory. Then click on "Create". Your page should look like this:Once you've got your OAuth2 token, you'll need to copy it into index.php under $oauthToken = "<YOUR GOOGLE OAUTH TOKEN>"; . Once done, save index.php and upload it back to your server via FTP or SFTP again! To test that everything is working as it should be, send an email to your own domain name (i.e., [email protected] . and watch as a task is created in Google Tasks with the subject line as the task name and the body of the email as notes about the task!
