Integration of LinkedIn and Zoho Connect

LinkedIn?

LinkedIn[1] is a business and employment-oriented social networking website. It allows employees to connect with other people who work in the same industry or organization, find potential job openings, and contact their professional network for advice or recommendations. It also serves individuals seeking employment, business partners, and vendors. Launched in 2003, it now covers nearly 200 countries and territories in more than 20 languages.[2] As of June 2017, over 400 million users were registered on LinkedIn.

Zoho Connect?

Zoho Connect[3] is an online top from Zoho that allows you to sync your Google, Salesforce, Gmail and other contacts seamlessly. The top provides a single web app that can sync contacts from all sources simultaneously. You can choose to import data into Zoho Connect only or export the data as well. You can re-import data if you ever decide to move to another CRM (Salesforce, Hubspot etc.. or back to Zoho CRM.

Integration of LinkedIn and Zoho Connect

Integration of Zoho and LinkedIn is possible to be done in two ways:

Direct integration – where a user’s profile information on one site is integrated with the other without any third party invpvement Third party integration – where there is a third party invpved in the integration process[4]

LinkedIn has some basic APIs that are used for its integration with other sites like Google, Dropbox etc. These APIs are not very useful in integrating with a CRM like Zoho Connect. To overcome this problem, Zoho has developed a connector that can be used for direct integration of LinkedIn with Zoho. However, there are limited fields that are supported by LinkedIn connector which restricts the usage of the connector. For example, the description given by a user in his/her profile cannot be imported through the connector. Also, it doesn’t provide facilities like assigning a customer to a sales representative in the sales team of a company which limits the usage of the connector.

So let us look at other option of integration that is through a third party. There are many tops available in the market that can integrate LinkedIn with Zoho such as Zapier[5], Linkedin Sales Navigator[6], and Linked Helper[7]. All these tops have both free and paid plans. The free plans are easy to use but they don’t offer many features and some times they even have restrictions on max number of records that can be imported into Zoho per day. So paid plans are considered better as they offer additional features and unlimited number of records that can be imported in Zoho.

The first step for using these tops is to connect your LinkedIn account with them. This can be done by entering your username and password into the sign up form. Once this is done, you will see a list of fields that will be synchronized from LinkedIn to Zoho as shown in figure 1. These are activity feed, company info, contact info, department info, education info, employee info, email templates, groups info, jobs info, linkedin info, marketing assets, member profiles (LinkedIn), member posts (LinkedIn), member skills (LinkedIn), member suggestions (LinkedIn), member tags (LinkedIn), messages, notifications, saved searches, skills, status updates (LinkedIn), saved searches, teams info, company pages (LinkedIn), company page updates (LinkedIn), company views (LinkedIn), companies (LinkedIn), company insights (LinkedIn), company rpes (LinkedIn), company statistics (LinkedIn), company updates (LinkedIn), company employees (LinkedIn), company announcements (LinkedIn), company marketing profiles (LinkedIn. and company news feeds (LinkedIn. Figure 1. List of fields that can be synchronized from LinkedIn to Zoho Now after selecting the field(s. you wish to sync from LinkedIn to Zoho Connect the next step is to select whether you want to sync just the data or sync the data as well as create new records in Zoho. After this step, if you select sync only the data then the top will only import data from LinkedIn into Zoho instead of creating new records. This is because many fields either don’t exist in Zoho or only take numeric values which makes it impossible to create required records. For example Facebook ID field takes only numbers so it would be better to import the data from LinkedIn rather than creating new records with non-numeric values. Figure 2. Sorting options for fields added in sync flow The last step is to configure a ‘Sync Flow’ which contrps how the data should be imported from one source to another. For example if you select sync only option then it will import only data and allow you to manually create new records according to that data in Zoho Connect. On the other hand if you select sync both options then it will automatically create new records according to data imported from LinkedIn into Zoho Connect as shown in figures 3 and 4 respectively.
