The first thing that comes to mind when discussing social media and farming is the fact that it is so different. Farmers are not supposed to be on Facebook, or Twitter, or LinkedIn, and they are definitely not supposed to be creating their own blogs. However, things are changing. As more and more farmers discover the benefits of using social media in order to stay connected with their communities and share information about their farms, they are being forced to change their ways. Social media is literally changing the way that farmers do business and it is making a huge difference in the lives of all people who have been farming for years.

In today’s world, social media has become an extremely important top for business. It is used for marketing, connecting with customers, reaching out to distant relatives, and sharing information about new products and services. Agricultural companies are no different – they use social media to connect with the public and let people know about the latest products and services that they offer. This blog will explore one agricultural business that uses social media in order to expand its reach across the globe.

One agricultural company that uses social media is Harvest Public Media. Harvest is a nonprofit integrated reporting group that was founded in 2013 by journalists from The Chicago Tribune Company (Crain’s. This group seeks to bring stories about food to listeners around the country through radio, television and digital platforms. The organization continues to produce radio programs and webinars on topics ranging from urban farming to cooking, as well as produce podcasts on a wide variety of topics related to food and agriculture. When Harvest launched in 2013, they had one employee while currently they have over 100 employees across three different offices (Flanagan.

This organization produces stories using social media in various ways. By providing a daily newsletter called “Food Chain”, Harvest keeps its fplowers informed about the latest news in agriculture. This newsletter is sent to fplowers via email every day with links to articles about issues related to food and agriculture. According to their website, this newsletter reaches over 40 million people each year (Harvest. Also, Harvest utilizes Facebook in order to connect with agricultural businesses around the country. Through their Facebook page, Harvest is able to connect with thousands of farmers at one time. According to their Facebook page, Harvest’s Facebook presence has 1.3 million fplowers (Harvest. In conclusion, social media has changed the face of farming in America. In addition to providing information about agricultural businesses and products, social media also provides agricultural businesses with an opportunity to connect with distant relatives who live far away from their farms. Furthermore, social media has provided opportunities for agricultural businesses to promote their products and services on a much larger scale than ever before. Social media has allowed agricultural businesses to reach more people than ever before through a number of different platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and more.
