How to Create an Outline for a Persuasive Essay

A persuasive article is that type of article which is designed to convince the reader. A persuasive article generally uses facts, examples, and reasoning to persuade the reader to accept the writer’s point of view. A persuasive article differs from a narrative article in that a narrative article is based on personal experience or observation. The purpose of a persuasive article is to convince a reader to accept the writer’s ideas or point of view.

In order to create an outline for a persuasive article your first step is to decide on what issue you are going to write about. Once you have decided on an issue then you must narrow down your topic to one main idea. After you have narrowed down your topic to one main idea then you must come up with three supporting points that will be used to support your main idea. After you have developed these three supporting points then it is time to prepare an outline.

A persuasive article is usually five paragraphs long, with the first being an introduction, the second being the body, and the third and fourth being the two main supporting points. The final paragraph of a persuasive article is called the conclusion.

In order to create an outline for a persuasive article you must take the fplowing steps.

  • Come up with three supporting points (this can also be referred to as headings. that will be used to support your main idea. These three topics will end up being the three main sections of your article.
  • Now that you have your three supporting points it is time to write them out into three separate paragraphs. The best way to do this is to fplow the formula for organizing any kind of article, which is introduction, body, conclusion. First comes the introduction, then comes the body, and then comes the conclusion. The way you want to organize your supporting paragraphs is by placing two supporting paragraphs under each one of your three supporting points. This means that there will be two paragraphs under your first supporting point, two paragraphs under your second supporting point, and two paragraphs under your third supporting point.
  • Now that you have written out all three of your supporting paragraphs it is time to put them into an outline format. Start off by writing down “Introduction” at the top of the page and then write down the heading for your first supporting point underneath it. Then simply write out the two paragraphs underneath the heading for your first supporting point. Do this again for each of your three supporting points. This means that you should have six paragraphs total on the outline for your article (introduction and five supporting points.
  • Now that you have finished writing out your outline it is time to revise it. After you have finished writing out your outline it is time to revise it so that it flows well and makes sense. To make sure that your outline flows well and makes sense, read through it from beginning to end as if it were your article. If something does not sound right or make sense then try rewriting it so that it sounds better and makes more sense. Keep re-reading it until it flows well and makes sense.

After you have finished creating an outline for a persuasive article it is now time to write the actual paper itself!
