Integration of Keap and Wave

Keap is a gene-editing technique that was created in 2013 by scientists Jian Feng Zheng, Lianghua Zhao, and Peng Yuan. The technique invpves using an enzyme called Kuhn Rikusit to cut DNA at a specific spot. This spot is what the scientists are interested in. The DNA is then replaced with whatever the scientist wants it to be replaced with. The new DNA is introduced by means of a virus (Dong et al., 2016. The scientists hope to use the technique to cure diseases like cancer (Feng et al., 2015. There are other applications for Keap as well; one example is creating pigs that are immune to the black swine fever virus (Wu, Sun, & Deng, 2015.

Wave is a gene editing technique that has been around since 2012 (Jiang, 2015. It uses the same enzymes as Keap but Wave does not invpve using viruses (Liu, Xu, Li, & Huang, 2017. Wave works differently than Keap in that it only cuts the DNA at one location while Keap cuts it at many different locations (Jiang, 2015. Wave also cannot be used on adult cells because it needs the nucleus of the cell to be removed in order to work (Liu et al., 2017. Other than these differences, both techniques are similar. The scientists using Wave want to go after the genes that cause Huntington’s disease (Jiang, 2015.

There are many benefits to integrating Keap and Wave because they are both great techniques in their own right. Keap can be used in medical applications and in living things that are not human. Wave can also be used in medical applications and in living things that are not human. When these two techniques are combined, there can be more research done with them. Both techniques give researchers a deeper look into the potential of gene editing. With this information, more effective ways of gene editing can be developed.

Additionally, integrating Keap and Wave will allow for a deeper understanding of gene editing. This deeper understanding will help researchers make better tops for gene editing. Even though the integration of Keap and Wave was not yet completed there were preliminary studies conducted on combining these techniques. In these studies, Keap did not cause any mutations whereas Wave caused some mutations but not enough to alter the genes being targeted(Liu et al., 2017. This shows that there is promise for integration of these techniques.

In conclusion, Keap and Wave have proven themselves to be valuable tops in gene editing research. They have been able to provide insight into gene editing and have been successful so far in their medical applications. If Keap and Wave are integrated together, research will be able to go much further than it already has. Deepening our understanding of gene editing will only improve our ability to manipulate DNA.
