Keap is an app that can be used to store, sync and share notes through OneNote. It has been around since 2012 and the company behind it is called Boinx Software. The app was created by Martin Galy who later became the CEO of Boinx. The company was originally located in Hamburg but then relocated to New York. They are a small company with only about 20 employees.
OneNote is a note-taking app that was released by Microsoft in 2003. It is part of the Microsoft Office suite and can be downloaded from their website. The apps main idea is that it allows you to take notes, view documents and share them across multiple devices. “OneNote works across all your devices, so you can access and edit your notes from anywhere.” (Microsoft 2018. In 2015, OneNote had 120 million users and there were 1.5 billion people using Microsoft products who could access the application. (Microsoft 2017. The app also integrates with Outlook, Skype, Word and Excel which makes it quite useful.
Keap is a free app that one can download on their Mac or PC computer. Once installed, you can use the app to create notes that can be saved to OneNote. “Keap automatically saves any changes made on your device in one place, so you can always find your notes even if you're not connected to the Internet.” (Microsoft 2018. This means that you can take notes on your computer at home and then access them from another device when you are out and about. “Your notes are stored on your device and synced to OneDrive, so you can access them from any device using your Microsoft account.” (Microsoft 2018. Only you can access these notes as they are private. You can also share your notes with others by sending them a link. Keap has a handy feature that allows you to easily copy text from other applications such as Word or PowerPoint into Keap. You can also export your notes in a variety of formats including PDF, DOCX, TXT and HTML. This makes it easy to share your notes with others or print them if required. Another useful feature of Keap is that it has different templates for creating different types of notes. You can choose to create a checklist of items, a shopping list or an agenda for an upcoming meeting for example. This makes it much easier to keep track of things as well as providing a way to organize your thoughts or ideas. The last feature I will talk about is the ability to add images or videos within Keap. While this may not seem like a big deal, it actually makes sharing information much more visual and engaging. “You don’t need another top to add images to your notes—just drag and drop files directly into Keap.” (Microsoft 2018. This will help your audience understand what you are trying to convey better than if you just included a link to an image on the web somewhere.
In conclusion, I think that Keap is a good app but it is not perfect yet. I have been using it for several months now and I have found it very useful because I am able to work on my notebooks from my computer or my smartphone. I have found the integration between the two apps to be very smooth and haven't encountered any problems with synchronization. In order for me to be completely happy with this app though, I would like to see PDF exporting added to it as well as the ability to add images directly from Keap rather than having to save them on my computer first.
I think that integration of OneNote and Keap really helps me as a student because I use both applications often throughout the day. For example, I use OneNote when I am taking notes in class; however, I usually do not take notes in one continuous document like most students do because that would mean that I would have to update each individual page every time I correct something in the middle of my written work. I prefer instead to have multiple notebooks that have separate sections within them so that I know where to look when I have questions later on in the semester when we are reviewing material for exams or quizzes etc. Then, when I am done writing my notes at schop, I usually transfer them into Keap because it is much easier for me to take notes on my cellphone rather than on my computer during class...
