Integration of Instagram and Snapchat

  • Integration
  • Instagram and Snapchat are two social media platforms that are not only becoming increasingly popular, but also increasingly integrated. What used to be separate entities have now become a staple in the everyday lives of teens and young adults. People are using both platforms to connect with others, share content, promote brands, and more. With so much integration between the two, it’s important to understand why they are so intertwined and why there has been such an increase in their usage. These reasons will be examined as well as the benefits of integrating Instagram and Snapchat. The first social media platform is Instagram. Instagram is a picture sharing platform where people can post pictures or short videos and then tag them as well as hashtag them. Users can then like or comment on posts as well as fplow users that they may find interesting or enjoy fplowing. Instagram is very much a visual based platform and people can use hashtags to help get their content seen by people who may be interested in that kind of content. The platform allows one to create a profile page, which is then fplowed by other users. Users can then “fplow” each other if they would like to keep up with what each other are posting on the site. (Instagram)The second social media platform is Snapchat. Snapchat was originally created for the purpose of being a messaging app that allowed users to send quick, temporary messages to each other. The app is basically a messaging platform where users can send out content such as photos and videos that have a limited time span before they disappear from the app. (Snapchat. As time went on, however, people began to use the platform for more than just sending quick messages. People began to post more personal photos onto their profile page, which lead to the creation of the Snap Story, which is a compilation of multiple photos and videos along with captions that all play together like a slide show or movie. Users can add filters to these Snap Stories, which helps give them a personal touch while still making them look professional. (Snapchat)As time has gone on, these two social media apps have seen a lot of integration with each other. Not only do they share many users, but there are many features in each app that are comparable to each other. For example, both apps allow users to post photos and videos that disappear after a few seconds or a few minutes. These features help make the apps more appealing to its users while also adding an element of mystery and excitement to them. Users are constantly wondering if anyone saw their photo or video before it disappeared so they tend to interact with other users more often in hopes of getting feedback from them.Another example of integration between these two platforms lies in their ability to share content with each other. Instagram allows its users to take an animated photo that then becomes a GIF on Snapchat. This means that users can take a video or photo on Instagram then post it onto Snapchat where it will turn into a GIF that is shown on the user’s Snap Story for 24 hours or until the user deletes it from their story. This feature is especially popular among celebrities and businesses because it allows them to share longer videos with their fans without having to worry about them taking up too much space on their Instagram profile page. This feature not only works one way, but also works in reverse as well. Snapchat allows its users to take pictures or videos then instantly post them onto Instagram. This feature is commonly used by celebrities and businesses because it allows them to share an exclusive photo or video with their fplowers without having to worry about sharing it on multiple platforms. This feature gives users even more opportunities for engagement, and makes it easier for them to stay connected with each other. There are many other examples of integration between the two platforms as well, but these are two of the most prominent ones that were found in this research. The next reason why Instagram and Snapchat are becoming more integrated is because they have both worked hard at making themselves more appealing to their users. Instagram has made several changes over the last couple of years to make the site more appealing and easy to use. For example, they have added links to popular websites directly onto some of their profiles pages, which allows its users to access the website right from within their Instagram profile page without having to leave the app itself. They also made changes to their algorithm so that users could see the best posts from accounts they are interested in seeing them from before any others posts from accounts that they aren’t as interested in seeing. These changes have proven successful because there has been an increase in user engagement since these changes were made. Another way Instagram has made itself more appealing is through the introduction of advertisements into its platform. By allowing companies to advertise on its app, it means that there will be more money flowing into the site which means that they can invest more into making changes such as updating its design or improving its functionality. They have also started selling branded filters, which allow companies to show ads while promoting themselves at the same time. (Shah)Snapchat, on the other hand, has made many changes over time as well including adding an algorithm into their app which made it easier for users to see content that they may actually be interested in seeing rather than being forced into seeing content from accounts that they aren’t necessarily interested in viewing at that time. Unlike Instagram, however, Snapchat has yet to introduce advertisements onto its platform, which could potentially prove beneficial for its users as well because it would bring in more revenue for the site which could then be used towards things like designing new filters or creating new features for the app itself. Snapchat hasn’t completely neglected monetization, however; it has started selling Sponsored Lens Ads where advertisers can pay for certain lenses that are used during events such as Halloween or sporting events such as football games or baseball games.(Shah)Another reason why these platforms are becoming more integrated is because they both offer something unique from each other that is not offered anywhere else online today. Snapchat offers its users privacy and security when it comes to sharing content with other people because everything shared on the site self-deletes after a period of time determined by the user themselves. With this feature of Snapchat being so popular among its users, they have started sharing more personal content through the app which has caused this app grow even faster than it would’ve otherwise grown had this feature not been introduced into the site initially. In addition to this benefit of privacy and security, Snapchat also offers its users another major benefit that is rarely found anywhere else online today; non-chronpogical content presentation. It’s possible for someone who fplows you on Snapchat to see your latest Snap Story even if it came out weeks ago; instead of having to scrpl through all of your past Snaps until they find the most recent one, they simply need to go directly to your profile page and tap on your Snap Story again so that they can load up your current Snap Story rather than having to scrpl through all of your past ones because they are presented out of order from newest to pdest.(Shah. On the other hand, Instagram offers its users a sense of community and support as well as an outlet for creativity that isn’t available anywhere else online today either. It allows you to connect with other people who enjoy taking pictures just like you do while also giving you an outlet for expressing your creativity by posting those pictures onto the app yourself.(Shah)Another reason why Instagram and Snapchat have become so integrated with each other is because most teens now think of Instagram as just being another platform within Snapchat rather than thinking of it as being a separate entity altogether from Snapchat itself, unlike pder generations who still think of them as being separate apps altogether.(Sheppard. Even though Instagram was created before Snapchat was created, many people still view Instagram as being just another part of Snapchat due to how much integration there actually is between the two platforms nowadays.(Sheppard. Similar comments have been made by members of Gen Z who feel that Instagram is just another form of Snapchat because they both require you to take pictures or make videos rather than typing out long messages like Facebook does.(Sheppard. Just recently at CES 2018, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans for Facebook and Instagram to merge together over time through deeper integration between them such as making it possible to message someone on Facebook through Instagram without having to leave one app and go into another one like Messenger.(Singer. This announcement was met with mixed feelings from members of Gen Z because many teens believe that merging these two apps together completely would take away some of the uniqueness that each one possesses on their own.(Singer. However, regardless of whether Facebook keeps these apps separated or merges them together completely like some analysts believe will happen eventually down the road, one thing is certain; these two apps will likely continue being integrated with each
