Instagram is a social networking website that enables its users to share photos or short videos with others. It was first launched in October 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and has gained a lot of popularity since then. In June 2012, Instagram was acquired by Facebook for $1 billion. Since then, the two apps have been integrated into each other so that Instagram users can share their pictures on Facebook as well. People are also able to use the Filter By Connect feature to link their Instagram account to a Facebook profile, and view their Facebook friends’ pictures in their feed.
Instagram is a free app that allows users to take pictures or short videos using their mobile devices. They can then edit the pictures or videos and apply different effects to them. Users can also share these edited pictures or videos with their friends on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. The app also offers an option for users to fplow the accounts of others on Instagram. When users sign up for an account, they can add up to five people as friends and then take pictures or videos using the app. They can then upload these pictures or videos on the app, and tag their friends in them. They can also tag places, which will help other users to recognise the location of the picture or video. After uploading a picture or video, users can choose to allow others to add their own comments about the picture or video. If they do not wish to allow others to comment about it, they can select “no comments” under the “comment” section of the app. They can also choose whether to allow people from across the world to see the picture or video, or only their friends or fplowers can view it.
The user interface of Instagram consists of four buttons at the bottom. Profile, Camera, Activity, and Help & Support. The Profile button shows a user’s profile page where they can update their bio, change their username, view their fplowers’ profiles, view which photos or videos they have uploaded on Instagram recently, see their fplower growth chart, fplow new accounts, fplow other accounts, and delete their account. They can also view a map of all the places they have recently tagged in their photos and videos. The Camera button allows users to take a picture or short video using their mobile device camera and then apply different effects. The Activity button shows all other users that have recently commented on a user’s photo or video. The Help & Support button shows links to Instagram’s Help Center where users can find sputions for issues they may be facing while using the app. There is also an option for users to contact Instagram directly if required. There are two tabs at the top of the app. Home and Profile. Users can switch between these tabs easily by swiping right or left respectively. Home displays a grid view of all the user’s posted photos with filters applied. Tapping on any photo will take the user straight to that photo in full-screen mode, where he/she can like it or comment on it directly. Videos will play automatically when the user taps on them. For videos that are not related to a specific photo post, tapping on them will open up a video player so that you can watch them directly from your phone and share them if you want. Each post has a number of likes under it, which tells you how many times other users have liked that particular post. You can also tap on the heart icon under each post if you wish to like it.
Activity is another tab at the top of the app. It is similar to Home but does not show any filters applied to the photos and displays all your friend’s recent posts (from both Instagram and Facebook. If you want to view any of your friend’s posts without adding it to your feed, you can click on it from here or add it manually by clicking on “add posts” at the top of the screen and selecting “Add by Friends” and then choosing from your friends list. This will take you straight to your friend’s profile page where you can view their posts if need be.
There are three main sections at the bottom. Activity Feed, Notifications, and More Options. The Activity Feed is similar to Home except that it shows one user’s activities instead of your own notifications and updates from friends. Notifications shows other activities performed by your friends that you may not yet have seen such as liking their photos or watching their videos. More Options has different tabs underneath it such as Profile, Camera, New Post, Activity Feeds, Friends List, Settings etc., which are self-explanatory.
Integration of Instagram and Facebook through Filter By Connect makes it easier for users to share their pictures on both apps simultaneously without having to log in and out frequently between both sites. It also brings better integration between Facebook and Instagram so that users do not have to keep checking back every once in a while just to see if there are any updates from their friends who are also using Instagram as well as Facebook; they will now be able to view all their friends’ updates in one place without having to switch between multiple accounts constantly. Integration also makes it possible for Instagram users who have not yet created a Facebook account to create one with ease so that they can start uploading pictures on Facebook through Instagram as well. The only downside is that it may cause confusion for some users who may not be familiar with this merger between two popular social media platforms and may feel lost when they cannot find features like tagging of friends in photos in Instagram anymore because these features were taken over by Facebook since Instagram is now linked with Facebook through Filter By Connect. However, this is not much of a problem because Facebook is still easy enough for everyone to use without having to log into Instagram as well whenever they want to check out what their friends have recently posted on Facebook.
