Instagram is a popular platform for sharing photos and videos. In addition to the ability to share photos and videos, users can also share their thoughts and create mini-blogs on the app. The application allows users to express themselves beyond just photos or videos. Instagram also provides users with advanced features such as added filters, cropping photo features, or adding text to photos/videos. With over 700 million active users, it is no surprise that businesses are trying to take advantage of this giant social media platform.
In August 2016, Instagram introduced “Business” which later became the official Instagram “for business” platform. The new Instagram Business platform gives businesses the ability to take advantage of all of Instagram’s capabilities while simultaneously providing information about that business.
Firebase is a cloud storage service provided by Google. This cloud storage service is built on Google’s own infrastructure, making it easy to scale as needed. One of the best benefits of using Firebase is the built-in security. files stored in Firebase are automatically encrypted. Files are also automatically backed up, making them safe from human error, power outages, or other unexpected events. A fundamental feature of Firebase is its real-time database, which allows developers to build an app that receives push notifications when their data changes. This makes Firebase easier to work with than other options because it reduces the need for writing complex code.
To integrate Instagram Business and Firebase Cloud Storage, developers first need to create an account with Google Firebase. You will then be required to download the Firebase Command Line Interface (CLI. The CLI will allow you to create and manage your projects created within the Firebase platform. After downloading the CLI, developers need to register through the command line interface. Run your command using ‘firebase login’ in order to register:
After registration is complete, run another command to select your project:
After selecting a project, you will be prompted to select a default directory for a local copy of your project:
Now that you have registered with Firebase and selected your project, it is time to set up the integration with Instagram Business.
The first step is to register your app with Instagram Business in order to get an API key:
The next step is to create a new firebase project within your current project directory. This will give you access to a dashboard where you can view analytics about your apps and track user activity. To do this, run the fplowing command:
Next, you must configure your environment variables by creating a .env file in the root directory of your project. This file should contain three keys. GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID, GOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRET and INSTAGRAM_CLIENT_ID. These values can be retrieved from the API keys page on Instagram Business. Create these entries by adding the fplowing lines of code into your .env file:
The next step is to add required libraries via npm. Run ‘npm install –save firebase/app-indexing-service-worker’ in order to add the App Indexing Service Worker library into your project. Then run ‘npm install –save react-native-firebase’ in order to add the React Native Firebase library into your project. Make sure that you run ‘react-native link’ in order to add all of the dependencies for React Native Firebase into the appropriate directories. Finally, run ‘react-native link react-native-firebase’ in order to add additional dependencies for React Native Firebase into your project directory.
After adding all of these libraries and dependencies, launch a simulator and run ‘react-native run-ios’ in order to access an iPhone simulator. Open up Xcode and click on ‘Project Navigator’ at the top left corner of the screen. Then click on the ‘+’ symbp next to your project name. A popup window will appear where we can adjust our configuration settings for our new target. Select ‘New Run Script Phase’ from the menu at the bottom of the window. In the popup window, enter these values into their respective fields:
