IMAP by Connect is an open source Java based utility for testing IMAP servers. It is a command line top that works in conjunction with uProc to validate IMAP servers. IMAP by Connect is a simple top used to test your IMAP server’s functionality using a set of predefined commands. (https://imapbyconnect.sourceforge.io/)
uProc is a java based framework used to create automated functional tests for HTTP, SMTP, POP3 and IMAP protocps. (https://www.procalnet.com/uproc/)
IMAP by Connect uses the uProc framework to test the IMAP server. This allows the developer to easily write a program for testing their IMAP server rather than creating their own from scratch. The main purpose of this integration was to test the new features of the latest version of imap by connect which is useful for testing mail on the fly, i.e. checking the email on the server while it is being sent without having to download the entire email first. This is useful when testing mail servers because most mail servers are not available 24 hours a day and some have many users trying to send emails at once causing server overload. (https://imapbyconnect.sourceforge.io/docs/testmailfornewfeatures.html)
Allows for easy testing of mail servers without having to setup mail clients like outlook or thunderbird, instead you can just use your computer’s terminal If you want to test something specific with the email such as the subject or body you can easily do this from within imap by connect rather than sending multiple emails to see how one will behave in comparison to another Many new features have been added such as checking for pop-ups or clickable links, images, whether or not the email has been opened and if so what time, and more A full list of all the new features can be found here. https://imapbyconnect.sourceforge.io/docs/imapbyconnect_whatsnew.html The developers have also improved the documentation on their website making it easier for someone to find what they need without having to watch videos or read through files.
