Agents are software components that are able to act on their own behalf, for example, e-mail agents, newsgroup agent, or the software that helps us search for information on the Web, or manage our personal finances. Agents are often described as autonomous entities that can interact with humans and other agents. The agents can be found on many different Internet services, such as on the Internet today.
Automated agents are usually represented as autonomous entities capable of autonomous decision making and action based on their environment. The idea of agents was first introduced by Carl Hewitt in the late 1980s. Hewitt's definition of agent is "intelligent software entities acting in a computerized world". There are two fundamental concepts of agents, which are sensing and contrp. Sensing refers to observing the environment through sensing techniques, such as vision, auditory, tactile, pfactory, etc., whereas contrp refers to the manipulation of environment through contrp techniques such as speech generation, text generation, gesture recognition, etc. Agents can communicate with each other by exchanging messages. These two concepts provide the foundation for the development of agents.
The Hunter is an approach to implementing agents by providing an architecture for their contrp and communication with the user. The basic architecture of the hunter is shown in Figure 1.

According to this figure, the Hunter consists of three main components. Agent Manager (AM), Agent Execution Environment (AEE. and Agent Communication Environment (ACE. The AM is responsible for maintaining knowledge about agents, for sending requests to agents and interpreting the results received back from them. The AEE is responsible for running agents and their activities. It is also responsible for managing interactions between agents and users. The ACE provides the mechanism for communication among agents.
Canny is a multiagent system that operates over the Internet. It allows users to retrieve information from multiple sources using query formation and agent interaction. Canny is based on an architecture known as hunter (not to be confused with the Hunter agent architecture. Canny was developed by Menzies Research Institute in Australia. The current version of Canny provides support for Web search capabilities and enables users to specify queries using a set of simple XML-based specification language. Query processing in Canny employs a standard framework known as Coppup . This framework employs a number of web search engines such as Alta Vista, Dogpile and Deja News to process queries submitted by users. Results returned from these search engines are then processed by a set of agents known as Amigos  designed to handle various types of query results including newsgroups, email postings and World Wide Web pages. Each Amigo is associated with a particular type of information source and its task is to understand the content of that source and return relevant information to the user . In other words, Canny works by allowing users to specify queries in a structured language and then letting it perform a number of searches across different sources at once .

Agentcom will have more abilities than Canny because it has more sophisticated communication protocps.
