When you have a structure, you can start to write. Just don't get too hung up on the outline, it's more of a guide than a rigid structure. You'll probably end up rewriting your outline anyway.
This top is a simple, free way to generate an outline for any article. It will tell you what you need to include in your article, how long it should be, and even suggest some titles.
Here's how to use it:
Go to this outline generator page. Click the "Generate outline" button. Write down your article title. You can also choose the type of article you are writing, or leave it at "choose". Choose your article structure. You can either choose a standard article structure (e.g. introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion. or a narrative article structure (e.g. "I had a dream...", "I want a dog...", "I got a dog!". Type your article's introduction into the first text box. Type your main points into the second text box. Type supporting points into the third text box. Leave the fourth text box blank if you do not need an outline for that section. Click the "Generate outline" button. This will generate your outline! You can now begin writing your article based on this outline. And when you're stuck, come back here for more tips on structuring your ideas.
Essay outlines are hierarchical, so it's better to start with smaller chunks before you tackle the entire article. The easiest way to do this is to make an outline for each paragraph individually before trying to connect them together in a full outline. This method makes it easy to keep track of your ideas and see how they fit together – plus, it's nice to have some small wins as you work through a longer project like this one!
Here's how to do it. First, write down the topic sentence of each paragraph in your article on its own line in an outline format. Then add in supporting sentences beneath the topic sentence for each paragraph until you've filled out the entire paragraph. Here's an example:
Topic Sentence about why I love dogs Supporting Sentence about how much time I spend with my dog Supporting Sentence about why I wanted a dog so bad Supporting Sentence about why I finally got a dog Supporting Sentence about why I love taking care of my dog Topic Sentence about why dogs are awesome Supporting Sentence about why dogs are man's best friend Supporting Sentence about why dogs are so loyal Topic Sentence about why we should adopt dogs rather than buy them Supporting Sentence about how many dogs are homeless in shelters Supporting Sentence about how adopting a dog is cheaper than buying one Topic Sentence about why dogs make great pets Supporting Sentence about why dogs are good companions Supporting Sentence about why dogs help people feel better Topic Sentence about why dogs are better than cats Supporting Sentence about how dogs are more loyal than cats Topic Sentence about why cats are mean Supporting Sentence about how cats scratch and bite people Topic Sentence about why cats are independent Supporting Sentence about how cats always land on their feet Topic Sentence about why cats aren't fun Supporting Sentence about how cats never want to go outside Topic Sentence about why cats don't make good pets Supporting sentence about why cats aren't loyal Topic sentence about why cats aren't family friendly Topic sentence About how cats shouldn't be pets
Now that you have your outline for each paragraph written out, you can join these together in an overall outline for your article. Start with the most basic skeleton of an outline. a single paragraph with all of your paragraphs included in order. You can then adjust and expand from there. Here's an example of a basic outline for the sample paragraph above:
