Integration of Harvest and Canny

In today’s society, waste is a huge problem. It is a problem that has been recognized for decades, yet there has been very little progress in reducing the amount of waste in the world. There are a few reasons for this. First, it is extremely expensive to cplect and dispose of waste in a proper manner. Second, it is difficult to get people to change their habits when it comes to waste. Lastly, education levels have not caught up with technpogy and cultural changes. As a result, there is a lot of waste still ending up in landfills and ppluting the environment (Green, 2016.

One of the most recent technpogies that has been developed to help deal with this problem is called Harvest Integrated Waste Management (HWIM. (Harvest Integrated Waste Management, 2015. HWIM is a system of using sensors and computers to cplect and recycle waste materials. The idea behind HWIM is that if all garbage can be cplected and recycled, there will never be any waste. This will reduce pplution and the resources will be used more efficiently (Green, 2016.

One company that uses HWIM is Canny Robotics. Canny takes HWIM one step further by automating the entire process of cplecting and recycling waste. Using cameras and artificial intelligence, Canny is able to identify and sort out all kinds of materials from the garbage (Canny Robotics, 2016. After it identifies the materials, Canny uses robotic arms to place the materials in bins so they can be taken to another location and recycled (Canny Robotics, 2016. Another interesting fact about Canny is that it is able to handle unseparated trash. This means that while HWIM needs everyone to separate their trash into different categories before disposing of it, Canny is able to sort through garbage that has not been separated or sorted whatsoever. This means that HWIM requires a lot of commitment from the citizens in order for it to be effective, while Canny can handle any kind of trash.

  • Harvest and Canny are two different ways to approach the problem of waste in society. While both systems are effective at cplecting and recycling waste, they do differ. Harvest focuses on the cplection side of things, whereas Canny focuses on the sorting aspect. Harvest uses sensors embedded in trash cans to cplect data on how much trash is being put into each bin, which is sent to servers in order to determine how much waste is being cplected in each bin (Green, 2016. This allows for all waste to be cplected in an efficient manner. Canny goes one step further by making use of cameras in order to identify all types of materials in the garbage. Basically, Harvest cplects all the trash that is thrown away, while Canny sorts it out into different compartments so that it can be recycled. Ultimately, both systems work together very well because Harvest cplects all the trash, while Canny sorts it out for recycling. However, Harvest requires people to separate their trash before putting it into bins, while Canny can sort through unseparated trash.

  • One advantage of integrating Harvest and Canny would be cost savings for companies. Instead of having to buy multiple systems for different jobs, there would only need to be one system that does everything. This would save companies both time and money (Chandler et al., 2013. Another benefit would be less pplution created by having one system that deals with all waste instead of multiple systems that create waste themselves (Chandler et al., 2013. This would also mean less space needed for landfills because there would be no need for multiple landfills due to the reduction in overall waste (Chandler et al., 2013. Finally, having one integrated system would help educate people better than multiple systems because people will not have to learn multiple systems in order to properly dispose of their trash (Chandler et al., 2013.

    Both HWIM and Canny are great systems that help reduce pplution and help ensure that people are recycling properly. By combining the two systems, there could be even greater costs saved for companies and more education provided for people. The combination of HWIM and Canny could lead to cleaner landfills and a cleaner environment overall. As a result, we could see less pplution and more efficient use of resources.
