Amazon CloudWatch is a service offered by Amazon Web Services that provides detailed monitoring of AWS resources. It is commonly used for monitoring the performance of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2. instances.
Harvest provides integration with Amazon CloudWatch so that you can track your AWS resources on Harvest. The integration is provided for free to all Harvest customers. You do not need an AWS account to use the integration. You can find this integration on the “Integrations” page. After enabling this integration, you will see some new metrics on your Harvest dashboard. These metrics will contain information about your EC2 instance and other AWS resources that are used by your Harvest services. For example, you can see your metrics in “Cloud Watch” tab and “Instance Metrics” tab.
In the “Cloud Watch” tab, you will see charts related to total CPU usage, number of times that you have created new EC2 instances, number of times that you have stopped existing EC2 instances, etc. In the “Instance Metrics” tab, you will see charts related to CPU usage, network activity, disk activity, etc.
You can use these metrics to monitor the performance of your Harvest instances. If you want to search for a specific metric, you can do so from the “Metric Search” tab and then choose if you want to search for metrics related to CPU usage or network activity or disk activity. You can also search for metrics based on the resource type that you want to monitor. If you want to search for metrics related to disks, click on the drop-down menu and select “Disks” as the resource type. If you want to search for metrics related to CPU usage, click on the drop-down menu and select “CPU” as the resource type. If you want to search for metrics related to network activity, click on the drop-down menu and select “Network Activity” as the resource type.

The performance of your instances depends on many factors such as load created by jobs running on the instance, type of instance used (m3, c3, m4), etc. Different types of instances offer different performance and they cost different amounts of money. So it is important for you to choose the best instance type for your workloads. You can easily compare various metrics available with this integration and choose the best instance type based on your workloads. For example, if your workloads create very little load on your instances and their network activity is not higher than average then you should choose m3 as your instance type but if your workloads create heavy load on your instances then you should choose c3 as your instance type because m3 instances do not handle heavy loads well. If your workloads create high network activity then you should choose m4 as your instance type because m4 instances handle high network activity pretty well than m3 instances.
