Integration of Habitica and StoryChief

  • Introduction:
  • Habitica?
  • Habitica is an application that allows you to track your daily habits and goals. It works by using a virtual currency called gpd, which can be earned through your actions (like exercising. The system motivates you by punishing you with negative consequences (like losing hit points. for not completing tasks. You can also “hire” people to help you with your tasks by paying them in gpd — this adds a social aspect to the game.

    :

  • Integration of Habitica and StoryChief
  • StoryChief is an online writing platform that makes it easy to create and work on stories. You can create chapters, scenes, characters, and settings, as well as set up dialogue between characters. Here are some examples of what the program looks like:

    • Integration of Habitica and StoryChief
    • The fplowing are examples of how the two programs would integrate together:

  • A writer could create a character profile in StoryChief, then import it into Habitica. This way, the writer could see his or her character’s attributes, strengths, weaknesses, etc., which could come in handy when creating new scenes.
  • A writer could use the search function within StoryChief to monitor how often he or she uses certain words. If the writer used a word too many times or too little times, that information could be imported into Habitica. For example, if the writer doesn’t use a certain word enough times in his or her story, that word could have less hit points in Habitica. Or if the writer uses a certain word too much, that word could have more hit points in Habitica.
  • A writer could use the chart feature in StoryChief to see how many words he or she has written each day. If the writer doesn’t write enough words per day, that information can be imported into Habitica. For example, if the goal is to write 5,000 words per day, and the writer only writes 2,000 words, then he or she would be penalized in Habitica (through loss of hit points. If the writer does not meet his or her goal for 5 days straight, he or she can be fined (in gpd. The fine must be paid off before the writer can receive any more gpd/hit points.
  • A writer could use the chart feature in StoryChief to see how many words he or she has written each day. If the writer writes more than 10,000 words per day, that information can be imported into Habitica. For example, if the goal is to write 5,000 words per day, and the writer writes 12,000 words instead, then he or she would be rewarded with additional gpd or hit points. If the writer meets his or her goal for 5 days straight, he or she can be rewarded with extra hit points (or gpd. This extra gpd/hit point reward must be spent before the writer can receive any more gpd/hit points.
    • Communication between StoryChief and Habitica

There are many ways that communication could happen between StoryChief and Habitica:

  • A writer could use a third-party program to connect StoryChief to Habitica. He or she would do this by logging into the third-party program every day and looking at how many words he or she wrote. If he or she wrote fewer than his or her goal for the day, then that information would automatically be sent to Habitica through the third-party program. The information would then be processed by Habitica according to how it was integrated into Habitica (see #1 above. Alternatively, a writer could log into Habitica directly and see his or her progress for today’s writing goals. If his or her total number of words written for today is less than his or her goal, then they would receive their punishment accordingly (through loss of hit points. The same would apply if a writer overshot his or her goal by a certain number of words. In that case, he or she would be rewarded with additional hit points.
  • Because both platforms have integrated chat capabilities, a writer could communicate with other writers through StoryChief’s chat capability and vice versa. In this way, writers who work on projects together could keep each other motivated through their mutual encouragement and disappointment (in their successes and failures. They could also give advice and share resources on how best to achieve success with their writing goals. This would help ensure that writers stay motivated and on task throughout the entire process of writing their stories. It would also allow writers to bounce ideas off each other for inspiration and constructive criticism.
  • Writers would be able to use Habitica as a resource for writing inspiration and motivation as well as time management skills useful for writing regularly and staying on schedule. For example:
    • A writer might find it helpful to see reminders about his or her story (e.g., reminders about characters and settings. By seeing reminders of these things on a regular basis throughout the day through Habitica’s integration with StoryChief , it might be easier for him or her to focus on writing rather than remembering details about different aspects of his or her story. Another option would be to include reminders about things like word count goals for their current project. These reminders could serve as inspiration and motivation for them to finish their current project on time and even exceed their expectations/goals for themselves as writers. They could also serve as helpful reminders to help writers stay productive throughout the day without getting distracted from their work by other forms of entertainment such as Facebook and YouTube . By staying focused on their writing projects during working hours (which is still possible), writers might actually get more work done each day than they normally would without these types of reminders (which might make them feel like they accomplished more than they did. Overall, seeing these reminders throughout the day might make it easier for writers to remember important facts about their story such as facts about their characters and setting because they will see these facts every single day (which might make it easier for them to remember these facts. Furthermore, seeing these reminders throughout the day might motivate writers to get started sooner on their projects (because they don’t want to risk losing out on any good ideas they might have while thinking about their projects. Also, seeing these reminders throughout the day might motivate writers to stay on track with their projects (because they don’t want to risk losing out on any good ideas they might have while thinking about their projects.
