Integration of Habitica and Device Magic

Who doesn’t like to win? Habitica is an application that allows you to win rewards for completing your tasks. From my personal experience, the app is very motivating and is perfect for people addicted to their devices. However, there are also some problems with the integration of the app and Android Wear. This article will discuss both the positive and negative outcomes of integrating Habitica and Android Wear, and I believe this integration is a step in the right direction.

Habitica is an app that allows you to create tasks for yourself and then rewards you with gpd coins when you complete the task. The game is built around the concept of Dungeons and Dragons, where you are able to use gpd coins to buy weapons, armor, potions, etc. Habitica is available on phones, tablets, computers, and even Google Glasses. You can also connect your Fitbit, AppleWatch, or Android Wear with the app. To connect these devices with Habitica, you have to install Device Magic.

The integration of Habitica and Device Magic allows you to view your stats in real time on your smartwatch. For example, when I am walking or running I can see how many steps I have taken in real time on my watch. Even though the watch only shows you how many steps you have taken so far, it is still useful because it encourages you to continue walking or running. It is also useful when doing chores. Instead of looking at the numbers on your phone you can simply glance at your watch to see how many steps you have completed.

However, another downside of this integration is that it does not work perfectly. Although the integration works well in most cases, it does have some problems. For example, when I am sleeping I cannot see my sleep statistics on my watch, which is understandable considering that I don’t want my watch buzzing every five minutes while I am sleeping. Another problem is that when I am running or walking it sometimes takes longer than expected to sync my stats with the watch. However, it usually only takes about thirty seconds for my stats to sync with my watch. One more issue I encountered was when I had my Fitbit connected with Habitica and my watch simultaneously; the app did not always show me my progress on my watch. This problem was easily spved by disconnecting the Fitbit from Habitica.

Overall, I think that integrating Habitica and Device Magic is a step in the right direction. Although the integration has its flaws it still improves upon the user experience of Habitica. For example, I wear my watch all day long so if I were to look at my phone every five minutes it would get annoying very quickly. Also, if I am working on something outside the house it would be unnecessary to bring my phone with me because I could just glance at my watch instead. Although the integration isn’t perfect, I do agree that it is a step in the right direction.
