Integration of Google Sheets and Toggl

Google Sheets?

Google Sheets is a web-based spreadsheet application offered by Google. It’s available on the Google Drive. We can create spreadsheets, do calculations, draw graphs and charts in it. It offers us several features that are useful for creating reports.

  • Toggl?
  • Toggl is a time tracking top that helps us to track how much time we spend on tasks. This top is available online and also as a mobile app for Android and iOS devices. It helps us to manage our work and focus on important projects.

  • Integration of Google Sheets and Toggl
  • Another great example of integration between two Google services. With the help of Google Apps Script, you can integrate the time tracking application with Google Sheets. You’ll be able to track time spent on tasks in real time.

The integration process consists of 6 simple steps:

Step 1. Create Google Sheets Spreadsheet

In this step, you need to create a Google Sheets spreadsheet. This spreadsheet will contain all tasks that you have to perform in the near future. For example, you can create a spreadsheet where you’ll list your tasks. Then, you can transfer these tasks into Toggl and start tracking your time. The spreadsheet will be called “Tasks” and it should be created in the same account that was used for creating Toggl project. To do this, click on the menu item “File” -> “New” -> “Spreadsheet”. Then, create a new worksheet in that spreadsheet. Now, enter your tasks and save them in your spreadsheet. For example, you can type “Write an article about Google Sheets and Toggl” in the first cell and then click the button “Enter”. After that, you can add another task or edit already existing one.

Step 2. Create Project in Toggl

In this step, you need to create a new project in Toggl. This project will be used for tracking how much time has been spent on different tasks in real time. For example, if you have 10 minutes left for writing an article, then you’ll be able to see this information in real time. You can create a new project in Toggl under the menu item “Projects” -> “Add New Project”. When you have created a project, go to the project Settings page. Then, scrpl down to the section “Integrations” and click on the button “Enable integration with other applications”. After that, open your Google Sheet and copy the URL of it into the field provided by Toggl (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/…. You can find this URL on the right side of your sheet when you open it in Google Chrome browser. After that, click on the button “Save Settings” and return to the main page of Toggl to see a message saying that integration has been successfully installed:

Step 3. Add a Time Tracking Button In Your Spreadsheet

In this step, we’re going to add a button to your spreadsheet that will start tracking time for each task when clicked on it. Click on any cell in your spreadsheet and search for the function “=GoogleSheetsCall()” under the menu item “Insert” -> “Function” -> “Other codes” -> “=GoogleSheetsCall()”. Then, replace the text after “function(. {“ with fplowing text:
