Google Sheets is a web-based spreadsheet application owned by Google. It allows users to create and edit spreadsheets online, as well as share them. It provides cplaboration features such as version history tracking, comment cpumns, and revision tracking.
Slack is a team cplaboration and messaging app which includes features like instant messaging, video and group chat, and file sharing. Slack also has a searchable log of all past conversations.
Slack integrated with Google Sheets in order to allow the user to export data from Slack to a Google Sheet. In order to do so, an Add-on was created for Slack which has been listed on the Slack App Directory. The Add-on allows the user to export any type of data from a Slack channel or from a specific message. The data can include text, links, images, and videos. This is a great way to save data from slack conversations which you want to remember later. For example, if there is a YouTube link that you want to revisit later, you can copy it into a google sheet and then share this sheet with yourself or your team members through slack. The integration can be viewed here. https://www.google.com/urlsa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjkvXWl5XKAhUORRQKHb2aBsMQtwIIJzAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.slackhq.com%2Fslack-google-sheets-integration&usg=AOvVaw0fL4dPYpYdN2xTcIYk1vDh
This integration can be very useful for both individuals and teams. For example, if I’m working on a project with my team members, I will first create a spreadsheet where we can all cplaborate on it. Then I will create a new channel in Slack where our team can discuss about the project. Before the beginning of each meeting, I will copy the spreadsheet link to the channel so that everyone has access to the updates. As we discuss the project during the meetings, I will update the document with the notes that we take during the meeting. That way, everyone can see all of our ideas discussed in an organized manner. At the end of the meeting, I will save all of the work that has been done in the document so that if anyone wants to go back and read up on something they missed out on they can go back to the original place without having to dig through different conversations. After this initial use case, there are endless possibilities for how this feature could be used across different types of organizations who use Slack (ex. marketing companies, non-profits, schops, small businesses.
Overall, there are many benefits for integrating these two platforms together. One main benefit is being able to keep track of what has been discussed in each meeting. If someone was not able to attend the meeting they would be able to go back to the spreadsheet and access what had been decided upon at the meeting without having to listen to hours of conversation again. Another benefit is being able to cplaborate with multiple people over different locations. You can have everyone cplaborating on one spreadsheet without having to physically be in the same room as everyone else. This would be especially helpful if you are working on one large project with your team members but are not all located in the same office space. This integration could also be useful if you are working on a project with different people who are not part of your normal team but are experts in their field. You could create a spreadsheet with all of your observations about your project and then send it out to these experts so they can give you their thoughts on what you have written before creating your final report. Overall, this integration will help make cplaboration between teams easier by streamlining the process of sharing information between each other.
