Patreon, a membership platform for creators to build their membership communities, enables members to “support their favorite content creators with monthly subscriptions” (Goodwin 2017. Members are able to give money to the creators of the content that they like and want to support. Content creators can post work on Patreon and then decide to create different reward tiers for their patrons. The amount of money they get each month for each tier is determined by how much money patrons pledge. With every penny pledged, content creators are able to make more comics, videos, or even podcasts. Patreon used to charge a 5% service fee for each pledge. However, when Google Sheets was integrated into the platform in July 2017, Patreon decided to waive its service fees for all content creators who use both platforms. I think this decision was made because the combination of Google Sheets and Patreon has enormous potential for both creators and patrons.
Originally, creators were only allowed to create one page on Patreon for their content. This meant that they could not post multiple works, but only one specific work. In other words, if a creator wanted to post a series of three comics, he or she could only do so by creating three separate pages on Patreon. Now, however, creators are able to post multiple contents on one page on Patreon by using the new Google Sheets integration. As a result, patrons are now able to access multiple pages on Patreon at once. It is now possible for patrons to see a cplection of all the creator’s posts under one Patreon page. In order to do so, they simply have to click on the “Google Docs” button on the top menu bar on the creator’s page. After clicking on it, they will be redirected to another screen where they can view all the contents of the creator. They can read comics, watch videos, or listen to podcasts by clicking on any of the links provided by the creator. The patrons are thus able to have full access to a creator’s works without having to create multiple pages on Patreon (Figure 1.

The integration of Google Sheets and Patreon has brought many benefits not only to creators but also to patrons. Patrons can now read a creator’s works without paying a service fee. Creators on the other hand can now post multiple works at once without having to pay any additional fees. Moreover, since Google Sheets is free, there is no additional cost for either party.
Patreon has had many beneficial effects on creators in terms of providing them an easier way to post their works online and receive donations from their fans. However, some creators still feel uneasy about posting their works on Patreon because they are skeptical about the amount of time and money they will be investing into it (Tubpla 2017. Since the integration of Google Sheets into Patreon has made it possible for creators to post multiple works under one page without having to pay extra fees, many more artists may begin to use Patreon in the future. As a result, Patreon will become a powerful top that many people can enjoy and benefit from.
