Google Photos is a free cloud-based photo and video storage service provided by Google. It was launched on May 28, 2015, with the integration of Google+ and Google Drive. Its basic features include unlimited high-quality photo and video storage, automatic photo and video uploads, and sharing of photos and videos online. It also offers features like location-based search and facial recognition to allow users to search their photo library.
Netlify is a web publishing platform that provides continuous delivery and automates some of the process of deploying code into production environments. It’s built as a single-page application (SPA. and designed for modern web development. When an update is made on a site it’s automatically published to Netlify’s servers which then distribute it to all of the site’s visitors. All the files are stored on the server so there is no need to transfer them with each update. This improves performance and reduces page load time.
Google Photos is integrated with Netlify by linking Google Photos with Netlify account. The site owner/admin then chooses to publish public images from Google Photos. This will create a build step in Netlify apps that will copy the images from Google Photos to the build’s assets fpder. For sites using Netlify CMS, this will be accomplished by adding an image field in the content type for the given site’s theme. The admin can then add an image to this field through the CMS post editor. The image will appear in the frontend of the site. If the image is added in offline mode or otherwise not publicly available in Google Photos, it will simply not appear on the site.
Using Google Photos in conjunction with Netlify has many benefits for site owners. First, it allows site owners to save space on their own servers. Since the images are pulled from Google’s servers, there is no need to store them locally when hosting on Netlify. This saves money since the space saved doesn’t have to be purchased by the site owner. Also, having images hosted on Google’s servers means that they are likely to be fast even in slow internet connections, especially in developing countries where slow internet speeds are common. Site owners can also use Google’s image searching capabilities in case they want to find an image that they don’t remember uploading in Google Photos. Finally, it allows site owners to focus on creating content rather than worrying about managing images because all images are being handled by Google itself.
